Rangers Deals on the Fritz

While they are struggling to come to terms with Henrik Lunddqvist, the Rangers traded Bryce Lampman for 6'8" enforcer Mitch Fritz (seen here dancing with Dale Purinton). The difficulties they are having making new deal with Lundqvist may cost them other opportunities. Reports are that Sheldon Souray is now close to a deal with the Devils. Souray and the Rangers had been close, but apparently Lundqvist's shifting price point, may have required more patience than Souray and his agents have. No great loss there, as we still expect the Rangers to trade for a top Defenseman in the near future. We'll miss Souray's shot on the power play.

I don't think it's a dead issue, but I applaud Glen for not breaking the bank and ruining the plan. I still think we will acquire a big time D-man via trade and possibly one more fwd.

We have to get Lundqvist signed. That's job one.

I agree and I think it will happen. All of Slats good work will be nullified otherwise. Right now Lundy is the #1 priority. I just hope they get it done quickly so the other dominoes can fall.

Souray maybe getting 6 per year from NJD up to 5 years.

Let him go, then. 5 was bad enough.

If we gave him 6 that would definitely ruin our plans. We wanted to get him cheaper and sold him on the idea of how close we are. He appears to have taken the cash. We will make noise in other ways.

It wouldn't "ruin" our plans since the cap will keep going up, but it will make him hard to move when he is in decline.

Excellent point that it would be harder to move him on the decline. NJ can have him at 5.5 or 6 whatever the final $ will be. Tomorrow should be interesting with everyone back on the job.

yeah, I think we'll get Lundvist taken care of and make a trade over the next few days.

Good Morning Phil/Dan

Looks like Prucha for 1 year at 1.6 mil according to my source.

We are still in it for Souray, he is having 2nd thoughts about NJ. Slats is really pushing him to come here at a lower rate.

We may hear of some trades today I was told.

Trades around the league did not specify if Ranger related.

Glad Prucha's done. Should hear about Lundy today or tomorrow. I wonder if we're just in Souray to up the price for the Devils. The trades will probably start happening today and the Rangers could be in on something that would clear some room and return a D-man.

I am wondering the same thing myself on Souray. If we could get him for 4 mil I would do it. If we drive it up for NJ to 5 or 6 I'm for it too, similiar what we did with Elias last year. The arbitration deadline will speed up the trades for sure. Things should pick up as far as we are concerned. I would not think Lundy will go much longer myself. It's getting more interesting and exciting.

Yup. Should be a fun next couple of days.

Prucha's deal is 2 yrs at 3.2 total. Weinman says possible to expect another signing.

That's an easily tradeable deal.

I think so too. I wonder who the other signing will be? I am not sold it's Lundy yet.. Though I expect that relatively quick anyhow..

Avery or Lundy. Or a FA.

I think the Prucha deal is very reasonable even if he does not get moved, which I still think is a good chance he will.
