Swept Away

The Yanks have done the unthinkable and lost three straight in Colorado. Was the air up there the problem, or were they just caught off guard? Andy Phillips is not the answer, and Kei Igawa goes against SF tomorrow night. Back to .50o. Wake up, Yanks!

The offense isn't good enough and time isn't on their side.

They scored 40 runs last time, not sure what the problem is. We need to win minimum 4 of the next 6.

The offense will get better and we're explosive enough to kick ass the rest of the way.

We need to continue the hot streak we had pre-Colorado. Hopefully Igawa gives us a solid outing tomorrow. Would they please put Damon on the DL

I agree we are explosive enough, but need to be consistent. Hopefully once the 1b situation is resolved we get some continuity and roll from there.

We'll get a 1B.

At 4:10 PM, Blogger Rich said...

It's not about explosiveness, it's about consistency.

The problem is that the lineup relies on too few hitters in order to be successful. If they don't produce, they are susceptible to getting shut down.

This isn't the team they thought it would be:

They don't have Giambi; Damon should be on the DL; they don't have a 1Bman; they don't have a DH; Cano and Abreu have been inconsistent; Matsui is good but not an elite hitter.

Unless they add at least one bat, they will remain vulnerable.

I also can't stress enough how wrong I was about Sheff. Signing Vlad was the way to do when they had the opportunity, but once the choice was made to sign Sheff instead, he had been critical to the offense, and they really miss his bat.

At 4:23 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

They're working on getting another bat.

At 5:38 PM, Blogger Rich said...

The sweep cost them a lot of leverage in any negotiations.

At 5:40 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

"a lot of leverage" an ounce if any.

At 6:17 PM, Blogger Rich said...

How do you figure?

According to the rumors or reports posted here, Krivsky was making absurd demand for Dunn. Now that the Yankees have been swept because they couldn't score runs in Coors Freakin' Field, he is going to think that his bargaining position has weakened?

Seriously?

At 6:19 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

The Yankees told him to call back when he's serious. They still have all the dough and hence the leverage. I don't know how you think these things work, but we've been able to wait all this time since Jason went down and Cash will stay patient and exploitive even when the fans are losing it. He's not reactive like the old Tampa faction was.

At 7:10 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Cashman retains any semblance of leverage as long as the Yankees are playing well. If they don't play well, his leverage begins to evaporate.

The situation is still fluid, but given the number of games the Yankees are behind Boston and Detroit, any prolonged stretch of bad play that is largely a consequence of an inability to score runs, has the potential to dramatically weaken whatever leverage Caahman has, unless he is truly willing to lose with what he has.

It's not just about Giambi anymore. As I pointed out above, the Yankees have potential offensive shortfalls at every position except 3B, SS, C, and to a degree LF.

At 7:13 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

The Yanks have the leverage as long as the have the best ability to take on deals. Losing at altitude to a very hot team is gonna happen sometimes when you haven't played there for 5 years. Yanks will still come back and their schedule gets pretty easy tomorrow and over the summer.

At 7:18 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Cashman has leverage b/c he can shop elsewhere. Who says we have to get Dunn? If Cincy is going to keep up their ridiculous demands then no one will take him. If Cano and Abreu can stay consistent then we will be fine. You'd think Matsui will get on a roll, as his numbers have indicated he starts slow but finishes strong. Cash will not make any impetuous moves imo.

At 7:30 PM, Blogger Rich said...

That can Cashman can shop elsewhere and not face similarly unreasonable demands remains an unsupported assumption until a trade is completed.

If Cano and Abreu were consistent, there would would be much reduced need for any offensive upgrade.

It's not about whether or not Cashman will make an impetuous move. It's about whether there is a reasonable deal to be made within a timeframe that still permits them to win the WC or the division.

We have no idea how it will ultimately turn out.

At 7:32 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

the sellers still want to sell by the deadline. The best buyer is the Yanks if you have deals to move.

At 7:39 PM, Blogger Rich said...

That is my point. There is a realistic possibility that the Yankees could be too far out of it by the deadline.

Granted, if Cano and Abreu were to hit to their projections, augmenting the offense could wait, but seeing Abreu attempt to bunt again today in a big spot was a very worrisome sign.

And please, they need to stop this Damon bullshit now.

Update:
Cashman called back and told Reds GM "only way i take that deal is if you pay half of all contracts"...reds gm only wants to take 10 percent of contracts..so there in a stand still today...

Most of the day Cashman/Boss were on phones with MLB letting know of there displeasure with the whole Giambi thing and how everything is being leaked media wise...

Only Way Yanks trade for Texas Relievers is if we trade for Texiera as my guy Tabata would be the one we trade to get Texiera

Shocking Note: Yanks are unhappy with Cano from what i have been told and he went far to say 45 % chance of him being traded in july or in the winter

At 8:26 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

sounds like the fastest way to get Griffey out of the deal.

At 9:02 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

i guess no wants likes the update

At 9:17 PM, Blogger Rich said...

If Texeira was healthy right now, I would have no problem trying to close a deal involving Tabata.

That the Yankee may be unhappy with Cano (and I don't just mean his on the field production) rings true.

At 9:17 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

yea that made sense...i mean to say i guess no one likes the updates..just being a sarcastic ass

At 9:18 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Cano better shape up.

At 9:41 PM, Blogger Rich said...

According to BP, Teixeira could be out until the AS break. That makes him a less good fit unless the guys we have pick it up offensively.

Before that, he had played in 507 straight games and never hit less than 26 HR a year since he was in the majors.

At 9:43 PM, Blogger Rich said...

The BP link doesn't work.

At 9:49 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I thought Tex was gonna be back tomorrow or something.

At 3:58 AM, Blogger Michael said...

No we don't have any idea ultimately will turn out. We also don't know that getting a 1b will be the answer either. POint was that Cash wont make a move just to get someone for the sake of doing it. Even if we do get a 1b the bottom line is Abreu and Cano still have to produce. A-Rod wont see anything if Abreu is struggling. I think you said it best we need to be consistent. Adding a bat will only supplement the offense as long as what we have produces.

At 4:02 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Trade Cano?? Hmmm. Tabata for Tex??? Don't know if I like that. Cano lacks big time plate discipline, and is often cavalier in the field. I could see why they would be mad, but curious as to whom they would target to replace him.

At 8:31 AM, Blogger Rich said...

You know how this willl ultimately turn out? I don't.

The way I see it, we don't know if Cashman will make a move, and if he makes one, we don't know what it will be and what the cost will be.

I don't think they would do Cano and Tabata for Texeira. I think it would be Tabata and say, Clippard.

At 8:32 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I doubt Cano gets traded.

At 9:08 AM, Blogger Michael said...

I don't have an idea how it will turn out, but agree with you and Phil that Cano wont be traded. He is under our control and is cheap. Why would they deal him unless someone knocks their socks off.

I wonder if Clippard and something else besides Tabata gets Tex, I would like to hold on to Tabata if possible.

You wanna know something about the great Cano...He Calls himself the "perfect hitter" and Mattingly and Long wanted to work with him personally hitting wise and he blew them both off, which pissed a lot of people off in the orginization

At 9:53 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Somebody needs to have a talk with him.

At 9:59 AM, Blogger Michael said...

"Perfect Hitter" Swinging at pitches 5 feet off the plate defines perfect hitter? Cano does not exactly lead the league in pitches per at bat. I think he needs to reconsider his position and take advice from one of the Yankee all-time greats.

Anything new in Ranger or Kobe land ?

Thank you for the updates as always!!!

Buster Olney has this obsession with getting A-Rod off the Yankees. Just saw him on Sportscenter, where he maintains he will leave for another team. He needs to come back to earth.

At 3:14 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Olney is a joke.

At 3:26 PM, Blogger Michael said...

I totally agree. He has lost all credibility imo.
