This Week on the Blog
It was a big week as the Yanks signed Walker, the Giants finally started rebuilding their line, the Rangers had a surprising the win, and the Knicks Kincked. Should be another interesting week coming right up.
Yankees: So far it looks like Tyler Wade will start at 2B rather than Neil Walker who will be the Super UT, to start. Of course that could reverse itself. Oh, and Gleyber Torres, who homered in his first MILB AB could change it even more. Bird still isn't really hitting, nor is Judge they will. The Yanks also picked RHP Luis Gil in a waiver trade for Jake Cave. Gil is either 19 or just 20 and had more than a K per inning in rookie ball. So he might be far off, but could also be good.
Giants: The Giants signed OLT Nate Solder and OLG Patrick Omemah, which reduced their need for starting offensive linemen to 3. Still a strong start, that would have been stronger, but C Sullivan decided to stay in LA. They misssed on Norwell, but the combo of Solder/Omameh, is probably just as good as Norwell and a lesser T. They'll probably have to hit it twice in the draft. Meanwhile, the Jets just traded up to #3. The Giants still hold the #2 pick. Also, Sam Darnold has his pro-day on Wednesday and if he looks great, he will probably become the #1 or #2 pick.
Rangers: The Rangers should be tanking, but guys like Kreider and MZA still have pride and, along with some suprisingly impressive yound D's, are making tanking tough. Their season will end April 7 and Lias Andersson can come up with 9 games left, and Filip Chytil can come back up with 7 games left. Then they're going to need some lottery luck.
Knicks: the Knicks are on a long losing streak, but it will still be tough to move way up in the draft without significant lottery luck, forwhich they are long overdue.
Happy Saint Patrick's Day, and have a great week starting tomorrow.

Luis Severino will start for the Yankees on Opening Day against the Blue Jays, Aaron Boone announced Saturday. The Bombers open the 2018 season in Rogers Centre on March 29.
Hankins released.
Gil is a 6-3 bean pole who throws in the Mid to High 90's and sports a high spin rate. The negative is he had shoulder surgery in 16...
Andujar and Florial got sent down.
Todays Walter Mock draft has us trading down with The Bills... Interesting...They also have Allen going 1
We now knows that Drury didn’t have a leg up. The job was his the day the trade was made.
F trading down.
The Wallter Mock has had the Buffalo trade in their mock draft since last week. It's 2 deep a drop down in what's looking like an 8 or 9 player draft.
Well excuse me..LOL I would do it if we could get a 3 -1rd return
Bird with a monster shot.
I actually prefer Bird’s spring-training this preseason to last.
Walker with a 2 run double.
I said before I was going to wait and see whether Drury blocked Andujar before I complained, so now that it’s confirmed that he is blocking Andujar, here is me complaining. I get not wanting Gleyber to start in the majors (service clock + he clearly needs more time in AAA), but I don’t like the message this sends a guy like Andujar.
I agree in principle, but since we are powerless fans, let’s see where we are by mid-June, with Andujar, Torres, and Wade. Wade, given his offense and defense, has earned regular PT in NY.
Another player who needs to be assessed in mid-June is Hicks.
Maybe the small sample of production last season is real, but to this point it is an anomalous period in a very unimpressive career.
Boone says he sent Andujar down to master the strikezone, which will take him from good to elite. I can support that.
That’s different, then. If they still feel like he has development to undergo as opposed to simply being blocked, I’m OK with that.
I believe Boone is telling the truth. The Kid is a hard worker, and remember how long it took Cano to learn the strikezone at the major league level? Boone believes it's the only thing keeping Andujar from the elite category. And that I can support.
I’ve felt lately his best comp was a right-handed Cano who played third instead of second. We’ll see what happens.
Wynn...yawn. Unless they seem some 3-4 advantage.
Who is dumber, Traina or Dotino?
Also signed CB BW Webb.
And WR Cody Latimer

And DE Josh Mauro.
F in NYK will be mediocre, at best, forever.

Boone isn’t in favor of giving up an out with a sacrifice bunt for the most part.
“I like bunting for hits,’’ Boone said after answering, “No,’’ when asked if he liked trading an out for a base with a bunt.
Boone didn’t rule it out completely. But if he is going to put the bunt sign on it is going to be somebody who has the ability to bunt for a hit.
“There are a handful of guys I would consider in the right situation,’’ Boone said. “In a sacrifice situation you may see a guy lay one down and I will ask them to be aggressive with it.’
Hallelujah
Always been in favor of bunting as a weapon, and to break a slump, but the only time it makes sense in a sac situation is if it moves one runner to second and another to third. Have to get 2 bases, not one.
Boone confirms that Tyler Wade has made the team.

Jeff Hornacek has one year left on his contract, but good luck finding league observers who believe he will survive to see it out.
The former Knicks guard Mark Jackson keeps coming up as a hot name to succeed Hornacek, amid a growing belief the Knicks' new front-office chief - Scott Perry - will want to install his own hand-picked choice heading into next season.
It's difficult to fault Hornacek for much of the chaos that has engulfed the Knicks during his two seasons in charge. But there's no avoiding the fact he was a Phil Jackson selection, which could well doom him now that the organization seems intent on cutting every non-Porzingian tie to the Phil era as possible.
Another name to file away here: The former Cleveland coach David Blatt has a longstanding relationship with the Knicks' president Steve Mills dating to their days as Princeton teammates. You wonder if that'll finally earn Blatt his first meaningful look from an N.B.A. franchise since the Cavaliers fired him in January 2016 while sporting a record of
Paul Schwartz has been spun.
So it seems every giant beat writer, with the possible exception of Stapleton, thinks the Giants are not drafting a quarterback and any indication that they are is just subterfuge.
Well maybe this is true, but if that’s what happens it’s moronic. Eli will be 38 and they need his replacement to be a highly rated college quarterback. The alternatives are very expensive or even riskier.
And if they are doing this to placate Eli, they are even dumber than I think.
Boom
Another blockbuster trade: Giants trading DE Jason Pierre-Paul and a 2018 fourth-round pick to Buccaneers for a 2018 third-round pick and a fourth-round pick, source tells ESPN.
Just talked to JPP, who said Dave Gettleman called to tell him he’d been traded to Bucs. JPP said DG told him it was “an offer they couldn’t refuse.” JPP said he is happy he’ll be closer to his son, who lives in S Florida. #NYG
Cessa sent down. Roster neatly clarified.
