Starting to Really Like Stanton

We can all agree that when the Yanks traded for Giancarlo Stanton, they we acquiring a superstar.  But I'm starting to think he's more than that.  Here's why: on Sunday; to create more options for the Yanks; Stanton, a right fielder by trade, played left.  It was a high sky and he misplayed 2 fly balls.  His misadventures out there made the backpages of yesterday's papers.  But guess what?  He's gonna be back out there again today.  I can think of very few superstarts who've come to New York, so hungry to win that they're willing to look bad or embarrass themselves to get there.  In other words, real team guys.  I remember Earl Monroe sacrificing game to come to the Knicks,  Dave Winfield playing left for Reggie, and ARod moving to 3rd for Jeter.  Otherwise, you can't really get a superstar to do anything like what Stanton seems willing to do to help the team.  Awesome.

I remember when the trade was made listening to Mike Francesa, who seemed to think the fact that Stanton was making significantly more than the younger, up-and-coming stars on the team would cause friction in the clubhouse. Examples like this are why I don't think that's an issue: He seems like a down-to-earth guy, and he's obviously willing to step outside his comfort zone to help the team. I think the younger players will recognize him as someone who has paid his dues to earn the money he has who is also a good teammate.

I'm seeing another lovable big guy. Distinct from Judge, but someoone I can see in the midst of a late inning Yankee rally at the stadium, without any of that weird energy of the 2004 Yanks.

Players aren’t stupid unlike that guy. Young players know that if they are good their money is going to be there when the system permits it. It’s so great to listen to FAN again because he’s no longer on it.

I don’t understand why they aren’t using Drury at second base at least a little. Makes me think that Andujar doesn’t really have a chance to start.

TAMPA — CC Sabathia offered high praise for Gary Sanchez on Wednesday, saying the power-hitting catcher reminds him of a "young Manny Ramirez" due to his ability to hit to all fields.
