Giants Trade for LB Alec Ogletree

The Giants have reportedly traded 2 2018 picks to the LA Rams for LB Alec Ogletree.  Ogletree is an inside LB who you might remember got into it with Odell Beckham Jr. a couple of years ago.   So the Giants are trading their 4th and 6th round picks to the Rams and receiving the Ogletree and a 7th.  They now have a late 4th left and are missing a 6th instead of a 7th so far.  Of course, they can probably pick up more picks with trade downs or other trades before the draft.  He's a good player.

UPDATE: It's a 2019 7th coming back. So the Giants are down to 5 picks as of now.

I’m fine with the trade, but I’m not fine with trading down with the first pick.

You can't trade comp picks.

now you can, starting last year. Its the comp they traded per Tom Rock, Stapelton and Schwartz.

Interesting scenario -- NYG Trade back 2 spots (CLE comes back up for Barkely/QB) then BUF trades up to 4th pick for QB. CLE gets Barkley/QB, BUF gets their QB and NYG get massive amount of picks in 2018 & 2019. Thoughts?

I want a top QB. If they think they can rebuild a 3-13 team into a team likely to win a SB with an aging Eli in one season seems like John Mara directed nonsense.

I hate the stupid idea going around that the Giants have to trade way the hell down and give the Bills a gift! Who the hell are the Bills and how the hell are they worthy of our largesse, that's too big a fricking drop.

This is also why I wonder what the QB position will look like in 5 years. Will it get to the point where teams just get comfortable enough to turn the position over financially rather than commit millions to one guy?
Will the definition of a "franchise QB" change in this climate?

Who knows, but it does draw attention to the multiple benefits of drafting one high when you get the (rare) chance and deciding later how to proceed. The opposite view is spending $30m ish for Cousins.

Buccaneers’ WR Mike Evans agreed to a 5-year, $82.5 million extension that includes $55 million guaranteed.

R. Sherman meeting with the 49ers. Garoppolo changed the perception of that franchise with players. Another reason a young top QB is needed here.

Also, what up with OBJ. I am not anti-drug, but I am not writing big checks, while the people who can probably don’t share my view.
