Yanks Sign RHP Harold Cortijo

The Yanks have apparently signed the 14th round pick, prep pitcher Harold Cortijo.  He's the kid who moved from Puerto Rico to Maryland to play his junior and senior HS seasons at a super program. He was really one of the most intriguing picks outside of the second half hail mary's they popped instead of seniors or guys who couldn't make their rosters.  Great get.

They also signed their 13th round JuCo monster bat Eric Wagaman.  He apparently hit a homer in his last at bat before signing.  I wonder if it's landed yet.

Both signings that they really wernt for what is becoming their bread and butter once again, power arms and power bats. No more power projections.  Just now power all over the place.

Torres put on 7 day DL. X-rays aren't that useful for potential soft tissues injuries, so we will have to wait for the MRI, exam, etc.

Justus Sheffield just got his first professional shutout, 3 hits. Last pitch was 98mph. Only struck out 3.

Who is going for Chapman? I'm hoping Clippard. (Dreaming)

Higgy

Honestly, Higgy needs to be the BUC if Romine's defense is as poor as I've read.

Gleyber Torres will see Yankees' team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad on Monday, and the team is bracing for the possibility that its top prospect could be out longer than a week, a team official confirmed.

Torres was placed on the 7-day minor-league disabled list on Sunday with a hyperextended left elbow.

X-rays were negative.

The 20-year-old infielder suffered the injury as he slid awkwardly into home in Triple-A Scranton's game on Saturday in Buffalo. He left the game in obvious pain.

On Sunday, Torres tweeted, “Thank you all for your good wishes I feel better toay just have to rest.! #GleyberGood”

Remind again why Adams isn't starting today?

By starting Cessa, the team basically punted this game. That's inexcusable.

It is a house money year. The only thing that can f it up is tight ass thinking.

True, which is why they should be giving guy like German increased roles of importance in the bullpen, as he could both help them win now and be a key piece going forward.

I would have much rather seen German start yesterday but Cessa wasn't that bad. As Rich (no longer a lawyer?) said, we are playing with house money this year.

We are also going to be in a 40 man roster crunch soon, so I expect some trades to happen, specifically with Mateo.
