Mason Williams Re-Called

Mason Williams is on his way to Oakland.  He does pitch, so it's pretty clear Hicks is going on the DL. I don't like the lack of meritocracy here.  Both Frazier and Fowler have earned the chance, and, instead, they are just going with someone on the 40.  I don't dislike, Mason, he's just been hurt a lot and gotten passed.  Oh, and where the hell is Tyler Austin?

I agree with you, and the Austin thing is ridiculous, I guess they would say Frazier isn't ready

We lose a lot of power if Hicks and Sanchez are down for awhile and Mason doesn't have the pop Austin, Frazier or Fowler have. He is the best defender.

I don't think Hicks injury is significant enough to waste calling Frazier or Fowler up. If he hits the DL, I think we'll see them call up one of the 2.

Higgy's coming up, too. I don't know who we sent down.

That Bird is going for a second opinion does not sound good.

Well Warren is going on the DL so that requires one more move

Gallegos optioned, and he absolutely sucked

Supposedly it's just his ankle, and his knee is fine.

Payton just misplayed a flyball into a double by playing too shallow, it's Domingo Acevedo's AAA debut, pitching in the 4th, shutout so far.

I'm sorry, 4 scoreless into the 5th, and a run here because the OF stayed shallow.

It's still a 3 hitter and his defense let him down.

Clint Frazier his 12th and a MONSTER 2 run shot....

Acevedo goes 7 strong, 1 run, 3 hits, 4K, 5BB, but the announcer said the tech was showing some balls were actuallly strikes.

I hope they've ID'd who isn't a "Yankee bat," as Phil likes to say, because they need to acquire some good arms fast.

This has become the road trip from hell, and exposed Girardi. It s easy to look like a great manager when you have a perfect pen.

To be fair, the pen is awful sans Betances, Green and Warren, but as I said in the previous thread, he doesn't manage it, he manages innings quotas and is far too inflexible when it comes to bullpen roles. For example, why was Clippard brought into the eighth inning the other night only to be lifted for Betances? Why not start Betances that inning?

I don't think it's awful compared to the league average pen though, and he is viewed by many as an above average bullpen manager. So I really think it's about personnel not skill.
