Chapman to the DL
Yikes. Aroldis Chapman, he of the sudden lapse in performance, has been put on the 10 Day DL with rotator cuff soreness. Egad, this is not good. Chad Green has been called up. Of course, Chad has been a starter in AAA, so this is probably for long relief, while one of the set-up guys either becomes closer or takes over the 8th for Betances as he moves back to closer. This is going to expose a bit of a shortfall in the rightly respected system. The Yanks used to have bullpen options out the gazoo, but injuries, trade throw-ins, and their constant problems with the 40 man have cost them some of their previously ready options. Still I'm reasonably confident that whatever Chapman's woe is, they won't suddenly turn Chance Adams into a reliever, which they might have done a few years ago.
In other disconcerting news, the Yanks have promoted 1B Mike Ford from AA to AAA. Ford, who was an undrafted amateur FA out of the Ivy League, has performed and is a good hitter and fielder who once hit 4 homeruns in a game. This season he only has 2 so far, but he's hitting over .300 with and OBP that's over .400. This is just a troubling because of the lack of progress with Greg Bird's injury, though Ford probably deserved the promotion and has turned himself into a useful piece.

If Sevy had struggled, he would now be Joba'd to the pen. Here's hope that never becomes an option.
And let's hope it never happens to Adams or Sheffield, too. Sevy's our best pitcher right now, and may very well be going forward.
This is encouraging:
He dealt with a similar injury in 2012 with the Reds and said he recovered in about two weeks.
Sevy cannot be an every other start guy...
That pitch is as question but Carter, despite the HR output, isn't worth having on the roster.
Warren thinks he is in Chicago.
I criticize him, so props to Head.
Love the win! Holder might be a guy!
Cano should have been part of this Yankee lineage but it's on him too.
So should Joba and Wang. Injuries suck. :-\
Speaking of injuries, is Tanaka healthy?
Ugh
So if Tanaka is healthy, do we need a new pitching coach?
I suspect, based on nothing, that he isn't.
His firt pitch last night was 88, let's hope this is just an early season dead-arm period.
CC pitching well and Sanchez homering was not unimportant.
Pineda, who has been their lost consistent starter goes tonight.
Not his best outing but effective. The offense is raking.
Is there a reason beyond short-sightedness that have caused mediots to be a campaign to get the Yankees to transfer prospects, or are they furthering an agenda of a source within the Yankees?
Speculation about trades drives clicks I imagine. I'm not opposed to making a trade that makes sense for both now and in the future, I'm just not sure who that player is.
As well as Torres and Adams are playing, I would like to see them called up before trading any important prospects.

Yankees passed on Happ, Jimenez, Zimmer
This is pretty fun and interesting. According to Joel Sherman, during trade talks last year, the Yankees and Cubs agreed that New York would receive either Gleyber Torres, Ian Happ, or Eloy Jimenez in the Aroldis Chapman trade. Also, during talks with the Indians about Andrew Miller, it was down to Clint Frazier or Bradley Zimmer. Both Happ and Zimmer were called up within the last week, and both have hit their first MLB home runs already.
Sherman says the Yankees passed on Jimenez because he was furthest away among the three Cubs prospects, and they passed on Happ because he’s not expected to be much of a defender. Torres had the best all-around ability. The Yankees went Frazier over Zimmer because he’s two years younger and has fewer exploitable holes in his swing. (Zimmer had a 30.7% strikeout rate between Double-A and Triple-A last year. Yikes!)
I really do like Happ, though I am totally cool with passing on him for Gleyber. The Yankees picked correctly in both cases, in my opinion. Torres is a budding superstar. Frazier has a much better chance to be an impact bat long-term too. Something tells me we’ll all have one eye on Happ and Jimenez and Zimmer over the next few years. Either way, the trade deadline last year truly was a franchise altering event. The Yankees are in much better shape long-term right now than they were 12 months ago.
I too think it was the right call. Frazier has been coming on in AAA as of late, and folks are raving about Gleyber. I hope they don't put him at third — the bat could play up in the middle infield.
Since I assume they're going to leave Gregorius at short, Torres would need to be really proficient at avoiding the takeout slide at second. If he can do that I guess that's where he should play.
So that would leave Castro at third base I guess. He and Hicks present difficult decisions. Can both be as good as they've been so far this year? My guess is no and maybe they should sell high, but they're probably going to be here.
Torres hasn't been playing second, just SS and 3B.
Oh, thanks.
I wonder what level young pitcher Didi could bring back. I would be shocked if they did it. Cashman seems very, very loyal to traded for young players.
Command still lacking for Tanaka.
He has to be hurt.
Either way he is hurting the team. The opt out is moot.
At least the first two pieces of the offensive cornerstone are hitting.
So if this is the trajectory of the season, I don't think it is but it could be, I'm OK with it. Are they?
