Severino Dominates as Chapman Fails to Deliver the Win
Severino was once again splendid on Sunday Night Baseball's Big Stage against the Cubs. The Yanks' blossoming ace pitched 7 innings of 1 run, 9K, 1BB and 4H ball. Of his 21 outs, 9 were K's and 11 were groundouts. He also hit 100 on a strikeout pitch in the 5h. That's a pretty sick thing to do to the world champs. Lester was also dealing, and held the Yanks to 2 runs through 7. Fortunately, Gardy singled for Sevy, and Ellsbury homered him home.
Betances got into some trouble in the 8th, but also hit 100 on his way to getting out of it.
Chapman pitched the ninth, and became the third of the three Yankee pitchers to reach 100 on the gun. And he also got into trouble in the 9th, giving up a walk and a hit before K'ing the next guy, and giving up a run scoring single to the next, and then gave up another run, and stolen base to put the winning and tying runs of 2nd and 3rd, before getting a K for the second out. Dammit, he just gave up the tying run and stole a win from Severino. And Girardi has taken him out. What a disaster and maybe Girardi shouldn't have waited 3 runs and only two outs to take him out.

I 100-percent supported and still support the Miller trade, but I really wish it was him and not Chapman they got back in the offseason. He's not at good as Miller and has character issues.
Got the win, but man, I'm really beginning to come around to the idea of starting a man on second in extras.

The baseball purists would hate the idea of a man on second. I do see the logic behind the idea, especially if they are looking to shorten games,
This kind of game underscores the importance of developing long relievers as part of a regular staff.
Beats waking up to a loss. Yay. :)
Without a doubt, Severino's performance was the highlight of this game.
Agreed. I'm glad that effort ultimately wasn't wasted.
My concern isn't so much shortening the game as it is not having to go through an entire pitching staff.
The answer would be to expand rosters, not grant unearned bases.
Shreve was the other here last night.
Btw, today the Yanks are facing Rookie Davis, who was in their original trade for Chapman.
No Judge or Castro tonight.
That didn't stop a 3 run 1st.
Headley is regressing at the speed of light.
Maybe needs a day. Got hit pretty hard. In general, we're leaving too many men on, and making too many outs on the basepaths.
Why pitch Clippard with a 6 run lead? It's a perfect spot for Cessa
I think Cessa is in the minors.
My bad, it was Green, but he could have pitched.
CC may take some prospects with him as a parting gift.
CC has been awful for three starts. It's not just one bad pitch or one bad inning. How long before changes made? Warren, Green, or Cedss should get a shot.
They will comeback.
But I always hate not working the count.
That sucked.
