Rangers Land F Vinni Lettieri

The only upside, and it's a pretty decent one, of dealing so many picks over the last several years, is that that Rangers have been at the top of most collegiate free agent lists.  They did it again today when they landed F Vinni Lettieri, who was coming off a breakout year at Minnesota.  Unlike Hayes and Vesey who couldn't come to terms with the teams that drafted them, Vinni was undrafted, but went on to attend a top program and continue to develop.  He'll play the last 8 games of the season for Harford, then compete for a spot next season.  I don't think he'll be exposed in the expansion draft.

Ty Ronning also signed at ATO with Hartford and has an assist and a goal over his first two games. They also recently signed Sean Day and Tim Gettinger who I think are still appearing in their junior playoffs.

Much as I question the coaching staff at the NHL level, I do still really admire the Ranger scouts, who are finding a way, even without the picks.  And picking players was their strength before the FO started trading off all the picks.

UPDATE: They have also signed Penn State Sophomore  D Vince Pedrie.   So they keep cleaning up on the college scene.  I'd assume he's a 3rd year Sophomore and is 21.

ANOTHER UPDATE:  Little more research and he's 23.   Had a 8 goals in both of his PSU seasons, and 14 then 22 assists in those years. In 32 and 39 game seasons respectively.  So he's an offensive D.
