This Week on the Blog
Last week was a drag as the Yanks began their offseason, the Giants embarrassed us, and the Rangers and Knicks did what they could to try to cheer us up.
This week could be better, if for exampe the Giants were to win, or the Rangers get off to a good start in the regular season, or the Yanks continue acting with intelligence, and the Knicks keep gelling. Let's take a look.
Giants: the Giants have looked careless and stupid while making the same errors over and over again. Eli hasn't played well yet, and the WR's haven't dominated like they should, yet. And the multi-million dollar DL has been a bust when it comes to rushing the passer. It's been despicable, and this mught just be how things go after a long term coach is replaced. Is it work harder or is it recess? Oh, and the injuries are already out of control again. It's game five and sort of a must win against the Pack tonight. Let's hope some coaching and coaching acceptance took place after the dsgrace against the Vikes.
Rangers: The Rangers will start the real games this week, and we may finally be seeing what Chris Kreider can really do. It used to be considered common knowledge that power forwards take longer. In the preseason, paired with Mika and Buch, Kreider looked like a monstrously dominant PF. There's word that they will start the season with 8 D, and I still can't believe they haven't made a trade. They seemed so close to multiple moves back during draft weekend. We'll see what happens, but they feel incomplete.
Knicks: The Knicks are deeper and more talented than they have been in quite some time. The new pieces that have played have looked good, and Noah hasn't even suited up yet, but is being a vocal cheerleader. He's supposed to play in preseason game 4. Meanwhile, the kids (including 27 year old Kuz) have looked useful. This could be a really fun year. Go Knicks.
Yankees: Cashman and Hal spoke seperately about staying the course, and looking to add pitching. Cash said he'd be unlikely to part with any of the July take, and that he expects to get calls on McCann, whom he should trade. They still haven't had the organizational meetings that tend to set the agenda for FA, the GM Meetings and the Winter Meetings, so as long as the don't do anything short sighted or downright stupid, we should enjoy more building.
Have a great week, everyone!

I agree Buz the Yanks need to stay the course. I hope we keep the 17th pick and even move up some. The Giants need to show some grit and beat GB.
They'll likely sign Chapman, trade a vet or two and otherwise try to fill the rotation internally IMO.
The Giants can't overcome Reese's years of bad drafting. And the decision to leave Flowers at LT...
Giants are hot garbage... Really tough now to find wins... All three phases horrible... Mara is going to have to do what he has been avoiding or afraid to, and clean house.
It would have been great to have drafted Gurley in Flower's draft year. That's what Phil wanted. But they knew they were exposing an aging QB to too much pressure. The problem is that the OL still isn't fixed.
The league has now adjusted to their offensive scheme, and they were unable to foresee it or addresss it.
Again, little or no pass rush as well.
As for the long overdue top down house cleaning (oh wait, it was all Coughlin's fault), they should also fire the doctor who cleared Apple. He looked tentative from his first play. Now, he has a groin.
So all the NY teams can make the case for hope, except the NYG.
You can't do this even if reporters are dicks:

Oh and Owa had 6 snaps last night. How can a player look good at times, while still in the early stages of development, and then be abandoned, even though there aren't any better risk/reward options on the roster?
Lawyer, your analysis is as always spot on! Don't want to say Flowers is a bust, but the chickens are coming home to roost. We can now add Tight end to the position list where Reese has been woeful. The one guy I thought they had and was vocal about it was Bennett, and they let him go, because of some stupid cap value system they have. I know there are many on BBI and other places whom present that argument, it when you are as talent depraved as the Giants, sometimes you need to think outside the box a little. He's like an extra lineman that and catch passes. If yesterday wasn't enough proof... McAdoo looks completely lost and over matched. I think it's time we start looking for Eli's replacement now... I mean realistically how many mor years does he have? I think 6-10 is optimistic at this point.
No pass rush at all is right. Rodgers could have watched the debate and built a new home with the amount of time he had..
Thanks Michael.
Eli hasn't played well this season, but I think it's because he doesn't trust his OL and he had no reliable running game. So he gets rid of the ball too quickly.
As for his replacement, they traded up for Nassib a few years ago despite multiple roster holes, and he has shown nothing.
Eli can thank Reese for shitting on a large part of his career.
Mara is almost as bad an owner as his father was before the NFL forced George Young on him.
Chapman...
So is Eli hurt???????
I'm guessing they should just never pitch Chapman outside the ninth inning.
I would think that some type of operant conditioning could be used so that relievers with great arms/stuff pitch in any inning they are needed.
Tate

Kaprelian, Tate, Sheffield and Chance Adams are all interesting arms to follow. Surely at least one of them can develop into a good SP...
As long as they aren't put in the pen at the first sign of trouble or need.
Kershaw to the pen?
