Yanks Promote Chance Adams to AA

Chance's name has been mentioned around here a bunch lately, and today he was deservedly promoted to AA.  Chance had a tough start or two to start the year at A+ but over the last 5 or 6 weeks he's been a machine of utter dominance.  This could also mean that Acevedo will be moving to high A, as he is mocking the Sally.  Or it could mean that Kaprielian is ready to come back.  In any event, it's good news and a great development story in the making.

One thing we will see, that I hate about every June, will be the releases of former picks and org guys after the and as the draft picks are signing.

But congrats to Chance, and the Scouts who found him.

UPDATE: Domingo Acevedo got promoted to High A.  So they both moved up a level and congrats to Domingo, too.

SECOND UPDATE: Miguel Andujar was also promoted to AA.

High A to AA is a big jump, so good luck to Chance as he goes up to Trenton.

Phil, as to your previous post about Gourriel, with Headley on the team, I doubt seriously the Yankees show any interest. Perhaps that's just my admittedly low opinion of the front office talking, but unless and until I see A.) A willingness to sit underperforming veterans and B.) A willingness to sign legit Cuban talent, I think it's pointless to get our hopes up. Would have loved to have him in his mid-20s, though, for sure.

Sherman is spot-on with this column, BTW: http://nypost.com/2016/06/13/the-trap-is-set-for-yankees-to-be-duped-into-going-for-it/

As I've said before, what's likely going to happen is the Yankees will beat up on these two teams and a good portion of their July schedule before the deadline, which will artificially inflate their perception as a contender long enough to stand pat/acquire a bench piece or two come July 31. Then, when they face better competition, the reality that this team simply isn't good enough will be laid bare for all to see, once and for all.

Call it stubbornness, playing the odds or just plain incompetence, but we're unlikely to see a sale at the deadline, which is a mistake in terms of the franchise's long-term health.

Last year might turn out to have been a phenomenal pitching draft for the Yanks. And I still believe there are two separate approaches going on in the Yanke org.

Phil, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on that. A tug-of-war certainly wouldn't surprise me.

Well, on the one hand you have a constantly improving scouting department analytics department and improved player development department, great programs now in the DR, and all the minor league affiliates, as well as the people who were really expecting the Yanks to sign Moncado last year. On the other hand you have Hal and Levine and the brother-in-law or ex-brother-in-law, Trost, and I sadly suspect Girardi. And I belive Cash is caught between the two.

I will not believe that they will ever integrate significant numbers of their own non-relief pitching prospects until they do. It has been too long and it requires patience and discipline, and this group has never shown that.

No way Cashman should get a pass. He hired Girardi, talks mindlessly about kingdoms, big hairy monsters, and over values defense.

And he acquires hitters who don't walk or grind.

I tend to lean toward Lawyer's line of thinking, I.E. I want them all gone, whether it's Hal, Levine, Trost, Cashman, Oppenheimer or Girardi. A hypothetical new GM could then determine who's worth keeping around. As far as player development goes, the results need to be there beyond relief prospects, and so far, they haven't.

I will always believe Moncada was a Hal/possibly Levine decision, but I disagree in regard to Girardi — I get the impression he and Cashman are essentially joined at the hip. Overall, I have zero faith in this regime from the top down, and the longer the same line of thinking that got us the current mediocre roster remains, the longer these lean years will last.

It's literally been about 18 months of the new development team... I like the scouts and the minor league system. My problem is with the major league team and its big and small decisions.

I don't disagree with that but the GM has to take a big share of the blame. Fresh eyes would be wonderful, but not Jim Hendry.

Gourriel brothers would be a good start. Yulieski at 3B and Lourdes at 2B

Lourdes is an outfielder I believe. And they aren't moving Castro either way.

At 8:46 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Lourdes is a SS and OF and both can play OF, you know, how everyone on the Yanks could also play OF back in the day.

I'm not sure Castro or DiDi is going to be with us longterm.

Just checked, and you're right. I'd sign Yuleski if only for his brother, assuming he doesn't want some ridiculous deal of over four years.

Was just going to post that both Chance Adams and Miguel Andujar are going to Trenton. Curious as to why they haven't moved Mateo up yet. Perhaps because of his recent struggles?

Didi is moveable because of his contract. Castro is questionable because you can see the potential and the flaws. His ISO D is horrid. Anyway I think both are staying for a while. Cashman doesn't admit mistakes very easily anymore.

We have better stuff on the way. Mateo will hit AA after the FSL All Star game.

Yes, but their track record of trusting their own kids is very, very weak. In recent years, they have done everything they can to avoid giving their own prospects a long leash, or have moved away from them completely when something else arises. Yet Hicks gets one based on a very uneven ML career, and sucking here for over two months.

I don't think it's an accident that Cashman was willing to force Cano and Wang on Torre, because he wasn't his guy, but will do anything Girardi wants because they share the same baseball values.

At 10:58 AM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

I agree with that. Like I said, Cashman and Girardi appear joined at the hip, so Cashman isn't about to tread on Girardi's philosophy on how to manage the roster.

The reliever formerly known as Pap Smear is hurt. Will the Yankees strike?
