Giants: Coughlin Steps Down
Tom Coughlin today told ownership that he's stepping down. This is a sad day in Giant land, even though the last three seasons have been brutal. He's just a guy who should be Coach of the Giants. I don't know what this means for the assistants or the front office. But I do hope the Giants go find someone who embodies their traditional beliefs and not someone who is flavor of the week. Personally, I'd probably have Stanford's David Shaw at the top of my list.

Reese should go also, but appears not likely. I would take Shaw as well as my first choice,.

My post got mangled. If Reese stays this is a clown show.
Thank you TC! I'll always remember those 2 SB wins, especially the first time I got to watch a SB with my son.
Allowing the incompetent Reese to make a statement about Coughlin is not a good sign
Don't follow the Giants closely but always respected Coughlin for his class and results. Good luck to him.
Given the talent, he deserved to stay.
Reese is not incompetent. There are so many variables at work, like on-field injuries, off field , unexpected career ends, as well as changes on the coaching staff and other factors.. It is clear that ownership believes in Reese and he's been part of the organization since around 1994 and was responsibile for both winning Super Bowl rosters. It cannot be determined with any objective look that he might not just be the victim of egregiously bad luck in terms of player health. That seems much more likely than his suddenly losing his accumen as a judge of roster talent.
It would have been fine to totally turn the page, but it is also fine to keep him.
Is the roster talented? No. He cannot escape responsibility for that.
Just because someone is a good scout it doesn't mean they're going to be a good administrator. That's what we have seen.
His failures have already claimed the job of a Hall of Fame coach. That's just not right.
The roster is INJURED. I will detail this when I get back from my workout, which I was putting off for the Giants news. But no Cruz, a blownup JPP, no Beatty, limited Beason, limited Schwartz, injuries to all the safeties. That was not his or the franchises roster out there.
This is football; injuries are part of the game. The reason the injuries have so much effect is because of the lack of competennt drafting beyond the first two rounds, especially along the OL.
Of course, the primary blame has to go to John Mara who is proving himself to be a far worse owner than Hal. With that in mind my guess is the new coach is McAdoo, If that happens, let's remember that he ridiculed reporters when they suggested that he was the heir apparent.
Just to expand on that, I think Cashman does what Hal wants him to do, I just don't think he does it as well as it can be done.
It's hard to believe Reese is doing what Mara wants him ton do but he still here...
Listening to a little of Coughlin is inspiring. Listening to everyone else is nauseating
Reese is an idiot he just challenged Raanan
who's Raanan? Reese is terrible and it's a shame he is staying but Coughlin isn't.
Michael
If you have time, could you elaborate? I had to turn it off to work.
