This Week on the Blog

This will be the first time in a few months that three of our four teams will be in official action - if you can call what the Knicks do (and better keep doing this season) action. Let's take a look.

Rangers:  The Rangers are showing signs of climbing back to that level they've been at for most most of the season.  In fact, they may already be there but we need to see it more that once.  Now they're just competing for the East and the President's cup, both of which are in reach.   After their crummy start it's nothing short of amazing that they could still win the President's Up.  Btw, they have 1 contract space open, and it will be instersting to see who gets it as we finish the season and playoffs.

Yanks:  The Yankees start their season tomorrow, and it no longer feels like Christmas in April.   The Yanks have made the decision to try to win with pitching and defense.  Problem is, the Yanks have never won that way.  Another problem is that their pitching ain't as sharp as they imagined it would be when that were "assembling" the `15 Yanks.   Tanaka and Betances are both missing V.   That's their best pitcher and best reliever.  Oh, and the offense they do have is old.  So, it could be a tough year at th MLB level.  However; the Yanks MiLB teams - at least for of them - start playing next week and that's something to get excited about.

Giants:  The Giants will continue to meet with prospects, attend pro-days and stack their board, for use during the misshapen NFL Draft that now mostly takes place in May.  Ugh.

Knicks:  Well, Karl Anthony Towns's season ended last not and Okafor's will end tomorrow.   Russell has been done for awhile.   The Knick have to figure out who to take, and more than that, figure out how to add more core.   Melo and high first round pick will help, but they need core.

So, it should be an eventful week.  Let's go Ranger and best of luck to the Yanks, Giants, Knicks and all of you.  Happy Easter.

I still think Towns is the best prospect of the bunch. The guy is so fluid for a 7 footer.

Phil said he won't solicit offers for the pick but would listen to offers? Maybe it's mere boilerplate bs but seriously, he isn't get Anthony Davis so he should just end that shit now.

I'd trade the pick for Boogie Cousins. He and Karl aren't getting along either, time to scoop him up.

So Bowden is predicting Yanks will land Hamels this season.

That is gonna hurt if it happens

Bowden has a habit of just throwing spaghetti against the wall.

Not me. I want young talent because of the added cap room.

Fuck Bowden

Bowden also reported a trade last deadline from a fake Twitter account as his own -- then claimed he got hacked when everyone realized the trade was bogus

Don't see the Yankees going after Hamels. I think they're standing pat with the prospects.

I could see them making a play for Justin Upton in the offseason, assuming they also move Gardner when Judge is ready. (I'd rather they move Ellsbury, but I doubt they could with that contract.)

Damn, Padres traded their competitive balance pick the the Kimbrel deal.

Ellsbury has a full no trade clause so he will be difficult to move.

No way on Upton. He is not a good outfielder for the money he will command. I doubt Hal will spend money unless money as in expired contracts fall off.

IIf Tanaka gets hurt and they are still pretending, I will fear a Hamels type of trade

Jeez, Knicks

To me, there is only one way this season is a success for the NNY: something forces them to shift to a sustained youth movement, featuring Refs, Slade, Severino, Murphy and Bird. It won't happen, but that, not wins, is what I care about. Wins will come in bunches when they stop lying to themselves and their fans.

I doubt they will be close to contending or pretending if Tanaka gets hurt. One of the sites has Hensley staying in Tampa for rehab; is there any chance he gets to Charleston or is he slated to start the season in SI?

He'll probably be in Charleston whn he's ready to go.

Thanks, Phil! I certainly hope so.

This is the Yankees youngest roster in terms of avg age since 1996!

Come on people, let's show some optimism in here! It's opening day!
