This Week On the Blog
I usually do this Saturday. Whoops. Alright, it's already a pretty interesting week and should only get moreso.
Yanks: The Yanks will start playing real games in the next several days. Before then there will be more roster trimming, as well as an Austin Romine trade. And we're still waiting for MLB to rule on Alvarez as well as following the Yanks troubling owner trevails.
Rangers: The Rangers have to get over Hank-shock and having already clinched a spot and start playing NYR hockey again. They should also sign Brady Skjei, as well as any other good college FA that's become available.
Giants: The Giants could still do some dumpster diving in FA. They'll also continue their scouting for the draft that will start in the month that begins Wednesday.
Knicks: Phil Jackson posted some stuff on Twitter, then today fired the D-League coach, and installed his guy Craign Hodges as the new coach. We could see more front office turnover as the Knicks get ready for the draft and free agency.
So should be an interesting week. I hope the Yanks trade Romine to the Padres as part of a package for the 41st pick in the draft. Have a great one, readers!

That Pod's deal would be a great move.y

*yawn* They scouted Moncada and didn't have the stomach to get into a bidding war. They scouted Abreu and passed. They scouted other Cubans and passed, and they'll pass on this guy too, because they don't understand the current climate in the sport and how to build a winner.
Unless he gets a waiver, they can't sign him.
The Rangers' PP blows.
Towns or Okafor. That's all I want to know.
So Warren will seemingly be the 5th starter. If he pitches well, I wouldn't replace him with Nova or of course, Capuano.
The question could be if CC struggles mightily, and he was one of the worst starters in baseball in his last full season, how long do they go with him.
Some people say that you can't expect them to eat his money, but you are eating it (or Tex's, for example) anyway, so why pay the price of losing as well as the contract price?
Now maybe CC and rest of the declining/aging core will offer upside surprises.
If so, great.
If not, is there a contingency plan that makes any baseball sense?
Something else I have been thinking about.
Keith Law recently wrote that Tanaka's stuff was still very good, but not as good as it was.
Now, obviously that could be an artifact of spring training, but what if it isn't?
Do their surgical plans change?
Who knows? Just throwing it out there.
"If not, is there a contingency plan that makes any baseball sense?"
The contingency plan is to let the kids pitch, which is the only reason they'll get a real shot anyway.
If so, then it should be the primary plan.
That was an important win for the Rangers
If the Yankees had traded for a SS who hit great but struggled in the field would they have stuck with him?
Why was it ok for Jeter to have limited to no range, but Refs can't get a chance to finish off his development here?
They desperately need his RH bat.
But the GM calls Drew the "smart play."
Up is down.
Bryan Hoch ✔ @BryanHoch
Brendan Ryan is limping off the field very slowly. Not sure exactly what happened there - ankle?
__
I don't wish him any harm personally, but he sucks, typifies their foolish defense-centric mindset, and he could potentially be replaced by a better player.
Lot of injuries in this camp.
Some offer a potential silver-lining, some don't.
Bryan Hoch ✔ @BryanHoch
The Yankees will take a look at Stephen Drew at SS tomorrow. Girardi indicated they’ll probably replace Ryan with a 2B (Refsnyder?).

They need to stop doing everything they can to have a chance to be really good again.
As if anyone would care as much but for the plan that yielded the Core 5.
Here's one step toward that end.
They traded for some guy named Petit.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I'm probably going to blast them in the morning, but I have to go to an event shortly and I don't want to be in an incisive mood when I go.
Worst GM in MLB
Guys develop in the minor leauges and they should be a finished product if and when the reach the MLB level.
When Refsnyder hits like Jeter did...then that is a different story.
Jeter made the routine plays with the balls hit to him and didn't make an excessive amount of errors.
Jeter didn't have the range to make an excessive amount of errors.
And Refs is doing a pretty good Jeter imitation with the bat.
Oh I see, unless you are one of the greatest contact hitters of all-time you have to be a defense-first player. No wonder this offense sucks and they are in danger of missing the playoffs for a third straight season.
And let's not forget that a lot of people dissed Cano's defense when he first got here.
Even after he demonstrated how good he was defensively, we heard complaints that he doesn't dive for balls, yet his range has always been light years ahead of Jeter's.
But it's ok to have defensive players that can't hit at all.
Got it.
So based on TRACK record with Drew playing over a full season...the guy can't hit? LOL
Got it.
I'd like to see Refs at the ML level but would prefer having him playing every day at Scranton over playing part time on the Yanks. Refs needs the reps, above all in the field.
Refsnyder was just re-assigned to minor league camp..
Let him play 2B everyday at SWB and see what happens comes July 1st
Drew hits well, for a SS. LOL. Could you be more obnoxious?
New topic and let's keep it about the teams.
