Yanks: Domingo German Needs TJS
So now 2 of the Yanks top 20 prospects are gone for the year. German's case seems surprisingly Camposy and I wonder if we traded for damaged goods. Much as some will object it, this coming draft could turn out to be starting pitcher heavy, the way things are going. Let's hope Yadier Alvarez's appeal goes through and El Duque's growing voice in the organization wins the day.

Damaged goods as was Pineda.
This is why you never give up a lot for young pitchers; they are too fragile.
So draft them or sign free agents over 26 but less than 31.
When you can't develop them, you're in a bind, and that's why we see a lot of moves that make no sense, with the Prado for Eovaldi trade being a rare eexception.
Pineda's looking good, too. We just needed patience.
And we signed Tanaka when he was 24 and about to be 25.
And both got hurt. So I don't see how that's a reason to keep doing that.

“That’s why we come to camp, that’s why we train, it’s the World Series, that’s our goal,’’ Girardi said. “To me it’s all or nothing. That’s why you play.’’

And why they won't win one any time soon.
If you want to argue that trading one of the top offensive prospects in MLB, when the ML roster was stacked with aging and declining hitters, for a pitcher whose velo had declined in the second half of 2011 makes sense when he didn't pitch for two years and was on the DL in the third year, because all that was needed was a ton of patience, then clearly the price should have been discounted as a result of the necessary patience.
The point of reference has to be what Montero's value was in 2011.
Relatedly, patience is something they regularly show to aging players, but almost none to anyone who comes through their system.
Therein lies the problem.
You wouldn't want Tanaka and Pineda on the Yanks right now?
Montero for Pineda is looking better and better.
I was excited about the deal when it initially happened since Montero had no position but DH on this team but the Yanks were loaded with DH's at the time so it was a no brainer.
Montero turns out to be a bust
I still wonder whether the Yanks knew some off-field things about Montero that made them think he wouldn't be a good team member. I personally was a bit disappointed when he was traded because I had been impressed by the way Montero had struggled at first each time he advanced a level but then adjusted and learned to dominate at that level throughout his minor league career. That's why I'm a fan and not a gm, I guess :-)
I was furious when the trade was made. But Montero is a big mystery still, and Pineda is turning into a dominant starter.
Do we still need hitting? Yup. Was Montero going to take care of some of that for us -- I don't know. He's failed to gain traction since we traded him.
So I was in good company!
Why is anyone still negative on the Montero-Pineda trade? It's looking like a huge win, and if Big Mike gives close to 30 starts, it will be a huge win.
