More Names In the Yankee Hitting Coach Sweepstakes
Okay, so Heyman has brought up some more names in the Yankee hitting coach sweepstakes. They are Dante Bichette, Marcus Thames and James Rowson. I like Chili Davis better than all three, and would absolutely dread Dante Bichette because his only qualification is that he is best friends with Girardi. I think organization was frustrated with Dante Sr. for coaching Dante Jr. to do things the Yanks didn't want him doing. So I think his name is only being pushed by Girardi. Like Girardi, Bichette didn't take his walks, and could hardly be expected to preach their benefit.
Marcus Thames is an up and coming coach, but I'd like to see him ply his trade at AAA first. Marcus also didn't walk much.
Rowson I wouldn't mind so much, especially if we're hiring 2, like so many other teams have done.

Chili was super underappreciated by the mainstream during his career.
Chili interviewed for the Yanks job today and is apparently going to be interviewing with the Red Sox tomorrow.
Let's hope we don't twiddle our thumbs and get him an offer before he gets snatched up.
Girardi really needs to go. He subtracts value.
Not a Girardi fan, at all.
I actually don't like having to be so negative about the Yankees but I just think that's the reality. Every once in a while I think am I being too harsh? And then I read something like this at NoMaas: (Cashman on with Kay):
In Yankee baseball, everything is more short-term oriented. Our decision-making process, because we’re in a win-now mode, I don’t think that’s ever gonna change.
Playing on the margins of building the perfect beast over time…those are not going to happen here, willing to lose a ton of games — draft, draft, draft, live to fight another day. You know, trade off players at the deadline, when your team might not look good enough, and speed up the rebuilding process…that stuff is not part of the playbook here.
There is no way that Cashman woukd said that in 2004. He has given in. He just wants the money and is willing to be a whore. And that's why we will never have a competent GM; no one with any self-respect would take this job.
They've probably become that way because of the stadium costs. They've had some dumb shit ideas under Hal, that included cutting draft budgets before the rules change, wasting time going for 189, and trying to consistently fill and overpriced stadium.
Here's the thing. Attendance and viewership has been in a downward spiral that was temporarily offset by Jeter's exit.
So their non-plan is actually hurting the bottomline.
The Steinbrenner Spawn are the biggest problem, but if a person takes their money, they are the problem as well.
The search for the "perfect beast" is why they can still claim to be a win-now team, because the effort to construct a great team by Stick and Buck is what created nearly 20 years of prosperity.
Now, maybe that can't be replicated completely, but it should be emulated rather than abandoned.
Imagine that. A business plan that yields long-term success. You'd think Hal, who professes to be a businessman, could see the benefits.
I think a better GM could have mitigated some of this problem.
I didn't see it because I was on my phone, but I later saw that NoMaas also had a 2005 quote from Cashman about the necessity of reinventing a team with youth.
And for a while, it looked like the mid-00s drafts would do that.
But he oversaw a system that couldn't finish off development.
Then he became obsessed with pitching at a time when his offensive players were declining and offense in the league was evaporating.
But his boss can't be bothered with harsh realities when their are yachts to sail.
Anyway, this is a mess for the foreseeable future unless luck intervenes.
I agree with everything Lawyer in NJ posted. The only chance they have is if some of the young positional guys like Refsnyder, Bird and Sanchez reach their ceiling and one or two hitters reach free agency over the next few seasons that are actually worth investing in.
According to the New York Post, Denbo sat in on the interviews with prospective hitting coaches so that may be a sign that he's going to replace Newman. (makes me think of Seinfeld)
Could be. I was leaning toward McMahon.
Looks like the Red Sox scooped up Chili Davis
