Yanks Greg Bird EL Player of the Week
Recently promoted Greg Bird has already won a player of the week award. Nice. Bird, like Cave before him, had an ofer or two before going wild at the new level Bird is exactly the kind of patience and pop guy the Yanks should be stocked with. His defense has gotten better and better at the hot corner, too. He was a Catcher when the Yanks drafted him, like Tyler Austin. Sad to think he too might be blocked by McCann. Probably not, though. He's too good. But it's great to see all the progress on the farm this year.
UPDATE: And just as we feel good about the farm, the Yanks promote Leroux and send down Bryan Mitchell.

They love fungible crap.
At least Mitchell will get to start on a regular basis, and build up those innings.

Right, instead of playing in the BP dirt and not pitching at all. He'll be back in September and he'll remain stretched out.
He should start in NY.
Why? He's had several descent starts where his results are starting to catch up to his stuff and several years of up and down results where he's struggled to learn his craft prior to that. Now that Pineda is back and assuming Phelps is back soon after who would he replace? He'll be up soon enough.
Because of his ability, because no one good is blocking him , because they need to get younger, because they need to find out if they can rely in him next season, and if they can, they can use the savings he would offer to fortify their numerous holes in iffense.
On offense.
Marginal vets rock!
