Yanks: Whitley to the Pen

Shane Greene is pitching tomorrow, Tanaka Tuesday and Brandon McCarthy is scheduled to make his Yankee debut in Wednesday.  Normally, that would push Whitley to Thursday, since he's been starting the day after Tanaka.   So, it seems like they're just skipping him this week because they're putting him in the Pen.   I tend to think this means someone else is coming, and probably because of Whitley's diminishing returns.   Could it be Greene? Probably only if and as long as he's lights out.   But since we know Cash had been working on the McCarthy traded for several weeks, and was in on the Cubs/A's action, he probably has another iron or two in the fire.     Stay tuned.

Just saw across ESPN's bottom ticker that David Price's fastball has decline a couple of miles per hour over the last couple of years. Really hope the Yankees don't trade for him.

I don't think it will be Price because of the price.

If they had a young, talented team and a stacked mL, Price wound make sense. They obviously have neither.

But if they are intent on spending their assets, there are worse options.

LINJ,

That's exactly what it'd be dumb. This team is not a World Series contender, despite all the pretending the front office will do over the next month.

If they trade Severino, Judge of Clarkin, they may be off the blog for awhile, as I have done to the Knicks at times in the past.

Mike

That is why I can't any real pleasure from McCarthy deal. Yes, he is better than Nuno, but where is the roadmap to being really good again?

If they aren't going to be sellers, at least sign Robertson.

They lost Cano for nothing. They can't keep doing that.

I look at McCarthy as a hopeful option of giving the bullpen some rest.

I like the McCarthy deal because he didn't pluck from the farm, and he has been a victim of both bad luck and a team that didn't want to pay him/have him, anymore.

It is hard to believe that it will be their only move, but if they want to compete, they can't let Roberts block Refsnyder. I don't see a strategy , only tactics that lack coherence.

I don't disagree with that. Not calling up Refsnyder and Pirela makes no sense at all.

Roberts getting player of the week is fools gold that will probably slow that down. Fortunately, Refsnyder played OF in college and could play that while taking turns at second.

Refsnyder homered again this evening.
