Yanks Acquire Brandon McCarthy
Yanks have flipped Vidal Nuno for ex A, current DBack Brandon McCarthy. They have also DFA's Soriano.
First thing's first, McCarthy is having a bad season, but some of it may be bad luck. Also, he get ground balls and his K's are up and his walks a down a bit. He might be able to keep us in some games. McCarthy is 30. Nuno was just 26 and just couldn't find consistency this this. They probably never would have gone bad season lefty for bad season righty, but they did today.
For revenge, or whatever, they have also DFA's Alfonso Soriano. This seemed necessary, but is a bit sad. Sori is a proud guy with a lot of great seasons behind him. It was just time. We'll see what the corresponding move is.
UPDATE: They have called up RHP Bruce Billings from Scranton, because --- maybe they think he can hit?

Good trade by Cashman.
Soriano hopefully opens up a spot for Pirela or Roller.
McCadthy stinks too.
His numbers are inflated by a .345 BABIP. He has a 3.79 FIP and a 2.89 xFIP. His ground ball and K rates are also good.
All they did was give up Vidal Nuno and take on a little bit of salary. There is literally no downside here for the Yankees.
But his ERA would be .5 higher in the AL.
We probably thought the same of Shawn Chacon in 2005. At worst, he's no worse than Nuno, and he actually has a chance of being better. With his contract being up after this year, there's no reason not to make this trade if it was there to make.
His luck might change with leagues. He was having a very misleading season as Mike points out.
I read a scouting report the other day, that his velo was up, too.
And apparently, they're bring up Refsnyder or Pirela after Billings makes the Nuno start tomorrow.
He's thrown 109 innings so far this year. That means, even with his bad luck, they were leaning on him.
Girardi says Billings won't start tomorrow - he'll be long relief -- and that tomorrow's starter is not on the roster yet.
Wonder if it's Shane Greene. That would be interesting.
RAB is speculating it'll be Zoilo, not Refsnyder or Pirela. In other words, someone else that should be down on the list of call ups. Ugh.
They're crazy.
I I just think it's a move that won't do anything fundamental to help them. It is just a Band-Aid. They are in need of fundamental change.
McCarthy alone will do what Nuno couldn't, which is provide innings. Our bullpen is getting overworked because our SP beside from Kuroda and Tanaka, don't give us innings. I expect McCarthy to atleast be league average quality wise but will be able to get us into the 7th on a regular basis, which is something we miss from not having CC around.
This is an absolute no brainer of a deal if I ever saw one. Arizona is a hitters haven and his peripheral stats as Mike pointed out, surely point to him reverting back to the mean.
When do they take the step from the pursuit of treading water to trying to be really good. It takes brains and guts to try to be great. They have neither.
They can only do so much at a time. Right now we are still suffering from their farm neglect, their premature draft budgeting, their idiotic drive to 189, etc.
What they are finally doing in IFA is smart. And they've actually been getting good players down there ever since Rowland took over and we could start seeing the fruits of that, even next year. Then, if we can maybe hold off on FA's and get more first, we can really re-load.
RR could come up as an outfielder but not as a 2nd basemen. If you do that you will retard hid progress.BTW he is an above avg OF
