Giants Draft: Review Pt. 7 The Williams Inevitability

I'm warning you, get on board now.   Because probably at some point during the Hall of Fame Game, Williams will truck somebody or stiff arm somebody an the Plinko of Giant reasoning will fall into place.  I had a feeling we were getting him back when I wrote about drafting running backs a few months ago.   The pass receiving issue was sort of my caveat, but outside of Tiki, we've had a few two down backs that weren't targets in the passing game.   I'm thinking of Little Joe, Ottis Anderson, and Rodney Hampton (who could catch but didn't need to because we had Meggett).  Also, though BJac and Ahmad made some plays in the passing game, they weren't used that much.

So what we are getting with Williams is a two down hammer with good forward lean and the vision, speed and hips to break some big runs.  He also has good forward lean and tends to fall forward.  And because of his lower center of gravity he won't be tripped up like Jacobs was at times.   His bowleggedness reminds me of Garrison Hearst, but for Giant purposes I think it's best to think of him as a bigger Joe Morris.   Rashad Jennings and David Wilson can catch the screens.

I like the pick because he needs less OL dominance than smaller backs, so he can be a hedge against a suboptimal OL. That makes the opposing D respect the run, which prevents them from focusing mostly on the pass, and should make the OL's job a little easier.

He can also maintain the BC/NYG connection after TC is gone.

He gives us back a physical identity.
