Giants Draft: Review Pt 1 First Impressions
I'm not going to get too deep here, but here are some things that jumped out at me. First, they did not use the 2-3 picks I wanted them to use on the OL. They used one. That said, they got a perfect Giant Type Center who should play for 8-10 years. Weston Richburg goes perfectly with Justin Pugh. So that gives us two great building blocks, but we needed more. With Schwartz we now have 3 quality OL's. Everyone else is an injury or a mystery.
At the end of last season, John Mara said the Offense was broken. Given that, I was even more surprised that the Giants drafted 4 defenders to only 3 offensive players. They also hired more D than O in FA. So what's going on? Also, in the early returns, they've signed more d players than o players in UDFA. What's going on? The defense wasn't broken.
I wrote quite a bit about taking football players instead of just athletes leading up to this draft, and that's just what they did. So I'm really happy about that. I would have liked more OL's (though within that desire I am really picky about the kind we take) but at least all 7 of the picks are football players and we won't have to worry about a lack of instincts slowing down anyone's development.
Also, I'm still waiting for them to sign some OL's in UDFA. They met with a ton of them leading up to the draft, so I'm hoping they have a ringer or two stashed.

My guess is that part of the reason they didn't draft more offensive players is a continuation of "it's Gilbride's fault." So guys like Jernigan, Randle, and even Robinson will turn it around now, and the OL won't be asked to hold their blocks as long.
Even if that is at least partly true, what seems to me to be arrogance on the part of the FO is a little off putting.
