The Giants Need More Picks

The Giants have signed a bunch of guys in free agency, and more or less bandaged things up so they don't have to reach in the draft.  Still, the team's talent level hasn't soared with the signings, and the draft remains the place where they can get their hands on the most unsullied talent.

Right now, the Giants have 7 picks in rounds, with 2 5th's and no 7th.  Now they need more picks.  There are a few ways to get more picks.   First, they can trade down from 12, probably during the draft.  That would be optimal, giving them another second day pick, and allowing them to hit OL twice and TE and WR once in those first 4 picks.

The next way is to trade roster players.  They don't do that often and their roster doesn't have the spare talent it usually does.

Finally, they can trade future picks.  They almost never do this during the offseason -- usually saving those picks for someone like Beason, who comes up in season -- and I don't expect them to start now. That said, the way they have gone after FA's this year makes me think they're looking for a big turnaround this year, so they might.

It's going to be a very attractive red chip draft and the Giants can really help themselves if they get more picks, especially for Day 2.
