Finally Phil?
Steven A. Smith is reporting that Phil Jackson is now leaning toward becoming President of Basketball Ops for the New York Knicks. If he does it will be one of the most delayed homecomings in the history of sports. Jackson was a part of the rotation for both of the Knicks championships after having been a Knick draft pick.
While I was in college, Phil was coaching the Albany Patroons, and I drove over for a few games. They were unbeatable under Phil, and the Knicks at that time were at the end of the second Holzman era and heading into the Hubie Brown wheel of coaches period, featuring the likes of Bob Hill and Stu Jackson. Yeesh. Anyway, I repeated wrote to Knicks management and ownership to give their old player a shot -- he was and is, after all -- a Holzman disciple, and Holzman was the only guy who ever won for us. It was particularly weird when Dave DeBusschere didn't give his old back up a shot. But history has now proven them worse than wrong.
I don't know what Phil's capabilities are as an exec, but he is no idiot and that's more than I can say with any certainty about the rest of the Knicks front office. Would he coach again -- a la -- Riley in Miami? Who knows? Let's just get a fricking plan in place for a change.

Fingers crossed this is longggg overdue and needed.
Sounds great but with Dolan in charge many others with great track records have been pushed to the roadside.
