Yankees and Qualifying Offers
The Yankees could end up with anywhere from 1-4 first rounders this year, depending how they work their qualifying offers. The number has been set a 14.1 Obviously, that excludes making an offer to Phil Hughes, but demands offers be made to Cano, Granderson and Kuroda. Now, it's possible that they all come back, but losing 1-3 of them would bring first round picks and the Yanks sort of desperately need those.
They will be picking around #18 in this year's first round, which is sort of way up there for them. Next year, if things go as planned they'll have an even higher pick, but meanwhile they have to keep doing what they can to add talent, so they should scotchguard those three players with QO's.
Meanwhile, Phil Hughes will go down as one of the reasons the dynasty stalled. Same with Joba. Tragic.
