Daily News: Damon Oppenheimer Retains Job
In what has been a slow week for news coming out of the Yankee meetings in Tampa, the fact that Damon Oppenheimer will keep his job and remain in charge of amateur scouting is at least somewhat re-assuring. I have argued all along that the problems have not been scout related as much as they have been pick position, draft budget and player development related. In keeping Damon, ownership is hopefully acknowledging the damaging effects of their budgets as well as how poorly they played the QO game before the rules were changed. We'll see what else happens to address those other areas.

As you said, I think the budget has strapped Oppenheimer and co. in recent years (prior to this past draft anyway). He, along with Cashman, has a year left on his contact. Let's see what they do in a year's time.
OTOH, if player development doesn't see significant changes, that's a sign that Hal and co. are nothing but talk.
