More on Richards...

More is coming out about the Richards signing. We found out yesterday that Glen Sather had dispatched Mark Messier to scout Brad Richards to last October. Now we are learning that the only reason Brad Richards didn't waive his no trade to come to the Rangers during the season was that he didn't want to deplete the Ranger resources and wanted all of the good young players to still be there when he arrived! This is nigh on amazing! What's more, his agent, Pat Morris, told Buffalo radio that the reason Brad didn't accept a lesser deal for his negotiating rights in June was because he thought the Rangers might need that piece at the trade deadline to help improve the Rangers. Wow, we felt it was a gimme, but who knew Brad was looking out for the Rangers best interests before he even joined the team.? Believe it or not, I think I have to consider Brad Richards a ringer. I feel good fortune follows so clean intentions. We'll see what happens.

That is rare in sports these days. It's also refreshing that he did not go for the highest buck. Richards is going to be a leader on and off the ice, for once I think Sather got it right with FA, though Torts had a big input on this one. I also love that Messier is as involved as he is. I firmly believe that Mess will take over for Glen when he hangs it up, and I have no issue with that. We still have some work to do, but this was a very BIG step!

Go Rangers!
