A Changed Man

Got to see Javy Vazquez today, and now have a better understanding of why he had such a good year last year. He's changed from being a pure power pitcher to more of an El Duque type who will come at you with the fastball, but also attack you with curves, changes and sliders. He still has that stiff #1, although Rollins parked the first one he threw this year, but his secondardy stuff is just filthier and more mixed in than it was in the past. I remember over the offseason we had heard that Javy had a better slider, but it's really that Javy has become a different kind of pitcher. He's power and funk now, and it should be fun watching him all season.

Christian Garcia also gave up a homer then looked good today. Go Yanks!

Yup, I liked what I what I saw of Garcia after he settled down, and I continue to like what I see of Kevin Russo.

Kevin Russo should make the team.

OT, but I was reading that if A-Rod was treated by this doctor, it's possible he violated his contract. Sounds more serious than initially thought.

It's nonsense. The Yanks approved the doctor and the trainer who sent him to the doctor.

It was in the NYT yesterday. Here's the link:

Was the trouble with Chapman that he wanted to be guaranteed to make the majors by a certain time?

Even accepting the facts in the article at face value, if Alex violated his contract, it would appear that it would be a non-material breach. Consequently, the available remedies would not include termination of the contract.

It's curious (although not unexpected) that the focus is exclusively on Alex when Phillipon recommended, and the Yankees approved, Lindsay, especially if this Ian O'Connor assertion is accurate:

...a Galea associate, Mark Lindsay, the BALCO-linked chiropractor who supervised Rodriguez’s rehab following the surgery performed by Marc Philippon, the hip specialist who recommended Lindsay to the Yanks.

It doesn't seem unreasonable to wonder why Lindsay was chosen, unless, of course, he is the best in his field, and they trusted his judgment. If so, why shouldn't Alex?

Also, Galea may have violated doctor-patient confidentiality by revealing that he treated him, or he may not be telling the truth, a possibility that Phillipon alludes to in the article.

Obviously, we need more facts. Unfortunately, that has never stopped the mediots from speculating out of their collective butts.

Ryan Pope, a 3d-rd '07 pick, has #Yankees excited with uptick in velocity this spring to 91-94mph. Ticketed for AA Trenton rotation

Did the Yankees get cheap with that SS?

Check that. It's Jeter's fault.
