Yanks Sign Jason Johnson to MiLB Deal

The Yanks have signed RHP starter Jason Johnson to a minor league contract. Joe Girardi says he will compete for the 5th starter spot. I don't know if this was done to tweak Andy Pettitte into some sort of action, but Jason Johnson is about 10% worse than average over his career, I don't really see him as anything but minor league insurance for the 2009 Yanks.

Come to think of it, this probably happened because Sergio Mitre, whom the Yanks had earlier signed as minor league insurance just got hit with a 50 game banned subtance suspension.
