Red Flags

Newsday is reporting the the Yankees will no longer pursue free agent fireballer Ben Sheets because of "too many red flags" presumably in his medical records. That takes him out of contention for the 5th spot in the rotation. As of now, the Yankees have a standing offer out to Andy Pettitte who has not accepted it yet. Should Pettitte continue to snub the offer, the Yanks could have Phil Hughes, Alfredo Aceves and Ian Kennedy compete for the spot, make a trade for Peavy or re-open negotiations with Derek Lowe or another FA. At this point, I'd just let Hughe and Aceves and Kennedy compete for it, and start putting together an offer for a big bat. Go Yanks.

It seems like Cash really wants Peavy, and if SD is determined to get rid of him we may have a match. I a just not in love with Andy thinking he deserves more then we are offering.
