LIKE FATHER LIKE DUMB

This impatient imbecile is trading Phil Hughes when there is absolutely no need to. What a fricking moron. It's back to the short sighted `80's.

Phil, as much as I like Hughes, if this can keep Tabata and Jackson out of the deal, I'm okay with it. If Horne is the prospect OTOH...

27,

The leverage was such that we should have kept Hughes out of it. As many quality arms as we have, it's unlikely we are raising another Hughes.

As much as I like Tabata and Jackson, OF's are easier to find than pitchers like Phil Hughes.

Aye, it sucks. But this is the nature of the beast when rooting for the Yankees. As of now, the rotation is Wang, Hughes, Chamberlain, Kennedy and Mussina. Since our team is never going to truly "rebuild," it's to be expected that something like this could happen. We still want to compete this coming season and having three rookies in the rotation is very risky business as far as that goes. We also need to take into account the possibility that Pettitte has informed the Yankees that there's a 10 percent chance or less he's returning.

As high as I am on Hughes, we do have a plethora of right-handed starters in our system. A talent like Tabata on the other hand...

Looks like Hughes is toast.

I wish him the best in Minnesota.

Hughes, Melky and a mid tier arm should be enough.

Santana, Wang, Pettite, Mussina, Kennedy with Chamberlain bumped to the BP.

Pettite is a must sign.

At 5:53 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Chamberlain's not getting bumped into the pen.

At 5:58 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I doubt seriously that Pettitte's coming back.

No way Joba goes to the pen. He's too good a starter.

So who sets up Rivera? Farnsworth?

Mussina is making 11M and not going anywhere so he is going to start

If Pettite doesn't come back then we need another SP via trade.

They're not done fixing the pen, Mo. It's not gonna be run as stupidly as it was under Torre. We're should be alright in the game management department.

Personally I'm looking forward to the possibility of Humberto Sanchez and Mark Melancon setting up for Rivera at some point in '08.

Cooler heads must prevail!!!!! Something is going on where it's forcing Hank to panic. Boston is getting exactly what they want. Let's hope this does not come to fruition.

At 7:54 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Please tell me Phil that sanity will prevail. Trading Hughes is short-sided.

At 7:55 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I think Hank went nuts.

At 7:56 PM, Blogger Michael said...

What for??? Does he really think Boston's rumored offer is going to get it done??

At 7:57 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

who knows. maybe he couldn't stand the heat.

At 7:59 PM, Blogger Michael said...

This is a bad omen of things to come. I hope Cash restores some order as this is clearly not what we need happening.

At 9:35 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Phil do you believe this Bobcat poster on Abraham's blog? Where he says there are two deals one with Hughes and little else and the other with Kennedy and more depth?

At 9:37 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

who knows? If they do this, they better do something else, smart, to get rid of some of our extra players - fast.

At 9:38 PM, Blogger Michael said...

I could not agree more, and I am holding out up Hughes stays.

At 10:21 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

so you think cashman had no say in this about trading hughes

At 10:22 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

No, I know for a fact he was against it.

At 10:30 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

so it looks cashman is losing power and that nutjob is taking over

At 10:31 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Looks very much like that. But it also looks like the Twins are trying to jack up the price for Santana now cause they think Hank is stupid, and I bet he will get mad at some point and tell them to go to hell.

At 11:13 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Good he should tell them that!!!

At 11:25 PM, Blogger Michael said...

According to NJ.com Boston may include Elsbury, and that Hughes and Cabrera may not be enough.

At 11:34 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I really want to see Boston give out the contract Santana wants.

At 3:26 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ellsbsury is now rumored to be included??

Good, let him go to Boston so they can give him 25MM a year for 6 years and be FORCED to rework Beckett's deal.

Doesn't Santana have a 8.00+ ERA at Fenway Park??

Save Hughes at ALL cost!

At 4:17 AM, Blogger Michael said...

If Boston agrees on the players and Johan envokes his NTC, that will kill all leverage Minnesota has.

At 9:51 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I'm still hoping Hank gets mad and pulls the deal.

At 2:37 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If the deal is Hughes, Kennedy and Melky than Hank/Yankees are dolts.

At 2:38 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

it won't be. Still, let's hope the Yanks pull their offer.

At 2:39 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I really hope Yanks pull the offer.

We could target a guy like Haren, Halladay or Bedard.

At 2:40 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Or make Pettitte an offer he can't refuse, and go with Wang, Pettitte, Moose and the kids.

At 2:45 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think you have to.

If you can't improve your SP then make your BP deep and strong.

Look at Jenks/Street etc.

At 8:26 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

This deal will get killed. The Twins are on crack if they think they're getting a top prospect in addition to Hughes and Melky. Hank will shortly tell them to screw off.

At 8:43 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Here's hoping.

At 7:49 PM, Blogger Michael said...

If Mr. Outspoken is to be believed the whole Johan thing as far as we are concerned should be over tomorrow one way or another.

At 7:50 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Here's hoping.

At 7:52 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Agreed keep Hughes, but I have a feeling we wont be.

At 9:05 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

This will be over tomorrow and we'll end up keeping Hughes, because the Twins are insisting upon being greedy. The real question becomes how serious the Sox are about acquiring him, and if Santana will indeed reject a trade to Boston.

I hope that's what happens, but I think the fact that our ultimatum coincided with Santana's threat not drop his NTC during the season means we will probably be starting our 72 hour window some time tomorrow. Hughes is by far the best player in any offer.

At 10:12 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm crossing my fingers Phil. The Twins tried to get cute, and when they did, we should have immediately pulled the offer. Although I can understand the business aspect of the deal, the fan in me never wanted to give up Hughes.

At 10:13 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I'm still hoping we don't but, it's just come out that Santana will only accept a trade to the Yanks and Sox and no matter who the Sox add, as long as Hughes is in it, the Yanks have the stronger offer.

At 10:16 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

"
* The Yankees are going to have to offer more than what they have on the table. The team thought putting Phil Hughes on the table was enough, but the Twins aren’t selling Johan Santana for anything less than three major-league ready prospects. The Red Sox offer is also short, leaving some wiggle room for other teams - the Mariners? - to make a run. The M’s could offer an attractive package, but Jeff Clement, a catcher, isn’t that interesting with Joe Mauer locked in."
--Will Carroll

I think this deal is as good as dead.

At 10:17 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Will Carroll has never dealt with Hank of Santana's NTC.
