Hank!

Henrik Lundqvist is back at a discount! Henrik signed a 1 year 2.5M deal with an agreement to negotiate his new long term deal in January, when it can be counted against next year's cap! That is team spirit, and tremendously encouraging. Go Hank! Go Rangers!

On to the D upgrade, which should include Souray if all the reports I am getting are correct.

Very VERY good move by both sides. Henrik will get paid. The fans will love him even more then they do now.

Yup, I'm expecting Souray and a trade for a top for DMan. The news should come fast now.

This came out of left field, the one year deal. I had heard nothing about it. This is a breath of fresh air and I totally give kudos to Hank!!! Straka/Shanny Malik and Mara(if they are both not gone by then) will be and that will free up more then enough room for us to sign him.

Any ideas on who we are targeting via trade? I would think as you say the Souray news and trade should be quick. So now we know what was going on they were getting Hank to agree on a 1 yr deal, which is a clear sign they have other things planned, otherwise why not just sign him long-term now?

clearly this was done for cap flexibility. Souray's been sitting around for 2 weeks, so that will probably happen now. Also a trade. Remember we can be over cap for awhile, so if we know we're gonna make a the trade we can be over cap for awhile and add Souray now.

Weinman is saying it 4.25 deal, Delapina says 2.5.

At 8:42 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Hank?

At 8:43 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Yes. Weinman in his blog says its 4.25 for Hank, while Delapina says otherwise. Not sure who to believe

Very good point, we can be over the cap for awhile. I agree with you that the announcements should be coming shortly on the D upgrades including Souray. I have no doubt a trade(s) will be made.

At 8:55 AM, Blogger Michael said...

TSN is now reporting the 4.25 figure as well.

At 8:59 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Still doesn't matter since we can count it against the 3 something in space when Kaspar gets demoted.

At 9:03 AM, Blogger Michael said...

I agree with you, this changes nothing. Kaspar will be sent down and that money will be freed up. Bottom line is Hank is back. We will make trades to free up cap space. No reason to think the plan we have been discussing will change b/c Hank is getting more then originally reported.

My Rangers update from my guy is that, Sather wants to do what it takes to get Souray here. Meaning shed some salary which will provide flexibility during the season if needed.

At 3:32 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Yup, I know. I think there will be a dump trade, a real trade and a Souray signing.

At 3:37 PM, Blogger Unknown said...

whats the time for all of these trades are people saying soon or later in the month?

At 3:40 PM, Blogger Michael said...

That is what I see happening as well. Malik/Mara/Cullen/Prucha likely candidates.

I think Cullen and or Mara possibly Prucha will be the real trade, while Malik will be sent someplace for a pick. Next years draft is great b/c it is supposed to be deep. I'd expect the moves to come relatively soon.

Are we still getting Forsberg from what you know?

At 3:43 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I haven't heard anything more on Forsberg since everyone heard he was signed two weeks ago.

At 3:46 PM, Blogger Michael said...

If he is signed then I say Cullen is a goner and Dubinsky will be one of our Centers unless Foppa is gonna be a winger which I do not see..

I think these moves all begin to shakeout sooner then later.

At 3:47 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

We'll see, but there is very clearly a "Quest for the Cup" mentality around the team right now.

At 3:50 PM, Blogger Michael said...

and why not? Jagr has only a couple seasons left. The thing is with Gomez and Drury you are building for the future and improving the chances to win now. Once Straka/Shanny/Malik/Mara are gone we will have plenty of cap room to make adjustments. Heatley will be out there next year. We could also put together a package for a sniper as well. We were very close to getting Kovalchuk before he resigned. I think the pieces are in place to win it now(with a few more additions on D) and the future is looking bright too.

At 3:52 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

The future looks spectacular, but they can't screw it up while they are fixing the D, and they have to find more elite kids going forward.

At 5:00 PM, Blogger Michael said...

That involves not mismanaging the assets we have. When they do trade them be smart what you trade for. If we acquire some extra picks for next draft that will also help. Smart trades ie a Seabrook type would be the way to go.

Do not mess it up when fixing the D is right on point, be smart Glen!!

At 5:33 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Cullen is on the block according to Dellapina. Looks like what we have been saying all along is going to start to happen.

At 8:31 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Souray may even be willing to accept a 1 year deal. I'm guessing he will get 3yrs max.

At 8:31 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

where are you hearing that?

At 8:33 AM, Blogger Michael said...

My source just messaged me saying that Souray really wants to come b/c he thinks we are close, and would accept 1 yr deal to fit under the cap, but prefers something a bit longer.

At 1:14 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Now fix the D.

At 1:17 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

my guy said it was done last night at 3-4 years at 5 million and souray wanted to play here badly, i can see edmonton offering 5-6 years at 6 million

At 1:18 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

We should still have a great PP, but we have to fix the D.

At 1:20 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

if we dont fix this D we have no shot next year...our D is less then stellar and i really wish some ranger fans would accept that

At 2:36 PM, Blogger Michael said...

I was hearing the same things Dan, I did not hear anything about him going to Edmonton.

At 2:39 PM, Blogger Michael said...

They must have made it really worth his while then. Edmonton has no shot of anything in the next few years.

At 2:44 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Phil/Dan do you think Lowe is going to trade him to us for a package? They really have no need for him and are thin on forwards...

At 2:45 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

maybe, I think we are gonna make a trade with them.

At 2:47 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Something does not add up here. Sportsnet says no trade clause for the first three years. I honestly am baffled by this one. I had been hearing all along he was ours.. Something is up.

At 3:02 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I don't think we're getting him. I think we're looking for a defensive defenseman now.

At 3:09 PM, Blogger Michael said...

I wonder who we target now? I am still surprised by this one. Regardless I expect one of Mara or Malik to be gone..

At 4:25 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Sutton could be a possibility. I am trying to think of whom else via trade we could get. Trading Prucha now makes more sense especially if we get that solid young physical D-Man.

At 7:52 AM, Blogger Michael said...

I wonder if we could get McCabe from Toronto?

At 8:03 AM, Blogger Michael said...

I heard that Toronto maybe a team we talk with about the D is why I made my previous post.
