Andy's Back!

Andy Pettitte, has signed on with the Yanks for at least one year. Don't know all the details, but this perfectly configures the staff for a transition to Hughes and company! Rock on, Cashmoney Green!

YES!!!!!!

Great way to start the weekend! I know Jetes Posada and Mo have to be jacked about this. Fell in love with Andy when he beat Smoltz in a gutsy masterful game in the WS. Great job by Cash!

Not a good move. 34 years old, ERA+ shows a league average pitcher. Moving from NL Central to AL East only makes matters worse.

Anyone know how beefy the player option in year 2 is?

How is it a bad move? He cost us no picks and does not block the kids? Has been healthy the past couple, is a warrior and was an AL pitcher his entire career? Looking at this as a bad move is like looking at Cindy Crawford as a mad move because she has a mole

We love the signing and view Pettitte as a terrific #3 behing Moose and Wang. Also, thanks for the link to NY Sports Dog.

Right now, Pettitte probably enters ST as #2 with Moose as #3. Pettitte is basically Moose 3 or 4 years ago. Lots of inning will be eaten by the top three and that should prevent some bullpen abuse in Torre's final season.

ERA+ shows a league average pitcher?

2004: 111
2005: 174
2006: 108

In what universe?

It's just a perfect move right now.

He's paid more than any other SP in the AL. He had an ERA above 6.50 vs the AL last season. He will be depended on to be, as Kalel says, the #2 in the rotation. He is not likely going to be #2 quality.

Hey, it isn't my money and yada, yada, yada, and having him rather than not having him is fine, but I am sure that when the season is over with we will look at his 2007 season and be disappointed. I would have preferred we spent the money to get the 28 year old kid from Japan. I do not believe we have a top 5 rotation, and I believe a top 5 rotation is basically a must in order to make it out of the AL alive.

We'll see.

he had a bad first half of the season last year, but rebounded and was dominant in the second half. His best age comp is Moose. He's getting the money because that's the market and the Yanks weren't the only team bidding. Plus, you have to like that it's only a one or two year deal. Total dollars are pretty meaningless for the Yanks.

Now you're altering the terms of the debate.

How many starts did he have against the AL? you are going to base an arguement on a pitchers record in interleague play as opposed to his entire body of work? wow...

Because Pettitte has never pitched in the AL and is clueless as to how to adjust.

But for the first half of the 2006 season, he has been lights out for two years, and would have been so even if you adjust for leagues.

You have one argument: that his elbow could flare up. If it does, Hughes and Sanchez are waiting in the wings, and his contract becomes a one year deal.

What else can we base it off of? The NL is an inferior league for pitching as you Yankee fans should know after you got Wright, Unit, and Pavano. You two have it all figured out though I am sure.

anonymous,

What's your team?

I am a fan of baseball but if I had to name a favorite team it would have to be the Ang.els

Okay. I hope they sign Hillenbrand!

When Andy left it was "his elbow is a ticking time bomb" but now, two years later, a few hundred innings later, and after signing on for $32M for 2 years it's "World Series Championship #27 is in the bag now baby!".

ugh. Did you notice that Andy's elbow went off in 2004 and he had what they call "elbow surgery"? That that's already happened he's pitch 200 innings in each of the last two seasons, I think you can comprehend why Yankee fans don't feel the elbow is a timebomb anymore.
