More Yanks

The Sori Deal makes it clear: the market has gone NUTS. Cashmoney Green is wisely staying out of it, and probably should continue to do so. Sori got 8 years and 136M. Not only have the $ amounts gone crazy, but years the remaining FA's will now seek will also go up. I'm sure if there's anything that makes sense for the Yanks in this climate, Cash will pull the trigger, but I really hope he's more inclined to just stick with the pitching he has in the system right now.

I think I may be moving toward supporting a hard salary cap. Not that it will ever happen.

Glad to see the Yanks interested in Ted Lilly. Is that your answer to the moves my Sox have made? Third place for the Yanks this year.

Don't believe everything yo read.

But the Yankees could win the division even if they stand pat.

anonymouse. Paying $100M or more to an inexperienced pitcher isn't gonna make up 11 games. You still have lots of holes to worry about at short, second and CF for starters. And agter Matsuzaka, your aging, battered and underperforming rotation has lots of questions to answer.

5/75 wouldn't especially bother me for Zito. I think they'll wait and see if they won the Igawa bidding before they do anything else. There are reports they'll have something done with Meche before that, though.

I have zero interest in Igawa.

Outside of Zito, I'm just interested in finding some "disposable" starters to start the year till Hughes and Sanchez are ready. If Igawa is one, who can than become the new Villone, rock and roll.

I thought I read that he would be used as a fifth starter. If so, I'd rather use Karstens and//or Rasner, or as long as they're being financially austere, let Sanchez and Hughes finish their development in the majors.

I think you get the best of both worlds with a guy like this. First, Johnson and Pavano may not be ready to go in April, so starter X takes one spot and Karstens and Rasner share the 4th spot. We don't need a 5th starter till May, by which time, the Yanks may be comfortable bringing up the big time prospects.

Is Proctor moving to the rotation?

King

King, Cash is saying that, and he said it last year, but who knows?

Uh, you're the 3rd place team. Who's your closer?

and Proctor's probably a better bet to stay healthy as a starter than Papelbon is, given that Papelbon's arm got whiny as a sox fan after 68ip.

Eduardo Perez?

As they try to fill their open spot at first base, the Yankees have reached out to the agent for Eduardo Pérez, who split last season between the Cleveland Indians and the Seattle Mariners. Pérez, 37, has never had 300 at-bats in a season, but he had 20 home runs in 347 at-bats over the past two years.

The Yankees are also interested in Shea Hillenbrand and Rich Aurilia at first base.

The Yankees are also considering whether to make a bid on the rights to Kei Igawa, a left-handed starting pitcher from the Hanshin Tigers of Japan. The bidding on Igawa started yesterday.
