Due to an Abundance of Horror Flicks

I've had to move more up to the days leading up to Halloween. Today, I'll be watching three Universals, then maybe three Vincent Price's. First on the list is Dracula http://www.filmsite.org/drac.html from 1931, it was directed by Tod "Freaks" Browning. Interestingly enough, Browning is more closely associated with Freaks, than with his vastly bigger hit, Dracula. 1931 saw the birth of the Universal Horror Machine. Both Dracula and Frankenstein debuted that year and caused an understandable sensation. This original "talky" Dracula features an old less dynamic Van Helsing and an outstanding Renfield played by Dwight Frye.

Next, I will watch Dracula's Daughter (1936) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dracula's_Daughter which was the first of the Universal sequels, and does not feature Bela Lugosi. It is good, however. Finally, on the Universal side, I'm screening Son of Dracula http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Son_of_Dracula_(1943_film) This one features Lon Chaney Jr (the Wolfman!) in the title role. The casting makes it a bit of an oddity, but we're gonna be thorough with these Univeral movies. Dracula will appear again, in House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula on Tuesday. I'll be back later with some info on the Vincent Price stuff.
