This Week on the Blog
Alright, the Yanks are off to slow, meaningless start, the Knicks and Rangers are limping to their ends, and the Giants are finally through the period of the offseason where they can't talk to their players about Football. Let's see what all of this means in the coming week.
Yankees: The Yanks are 4-4, and the offense and bullpen, their two greatest strengths, haven't really showed up yet, To make matters worse, they are being roughed up by player injuries. Last night they had to add CC and Drury to the DL and they sent down Holder. Today, they called up Jace Peterson (I don't know what the 40 man move is) as well as German and Cessa. None of this means much yet, and thank goodness Sanchez is okay after cramping up in the 14th last night. They'll start churning soon, and Andujar will now gt a lot of reps. And whatever happens with Drury, who has migraines, was not serious enough for them to burn Gleyber Torres first year. It will all work out.
Giants: Monday, the the Giants will begin Phase One of their voluntary offseason program. This will be the first time the new coaches will be allowed to discuss football with the players. How crazy is that? This period will end with a mini-camp leading up to the draft, so at least we'll have a steady flow of Giants news. And tomorrow they entertain Saquon Barkley - hope he's there at #2.
Rangers: The Rangers play their last game of the season starting in about 90 minutes. Then it will be time to fire their coach and pray for lottery luck.
Knicks: The Knicks have 3 games left, starting today and and finishing up on Wednesday. Then it's time to fire their coach and pray for lottery luck.
So there it is. Yanks have to get going, The Giants are allowed to talk football and will keep meeting with draftable players. The Rangers and Knicks neeed new coaches and great offseason plans.
Have a great one, and thanks for looking in.

I’m getting frustrated with Gray.
So am I. Early in the season, but we needed new pitching coaches.
Ben Heller had Tommy John surgery. I almost wonder if he would have gotten the last roster spot over Holder if he hadn’t been hurt.
quality start!
Dillon Tate had a good start.
Drury apparently just told the Yankees he has had migraines for six years.
Gray kind of bent but didn’t break.
Gleyber just hit a two run jack to tie his game.
Rangers just lost 5-0 to end their season. Need AV gone by Monday.
Don LaGreca thinks he is gone even though he thinks he deserves to stay. So that could be encouraging.
FWIW Rangers hfboards is saying AV is gone....
Bird in the clubhouse for the first time since his surgery. Said of the bone spur that was removed “I’ve been dealing with it. It was never a problem until this spring. I had it going on last year, they kind of thought it it would go away...it just became problematic this spring”
People think medicine is an exact science, but if you’ve had to deal with profession, you know it isn’t.
So Bird had a PRP injection in the ankle for the spur in the offseason.
Torreyes is not a SS.
Not a slugger either, but just doubled! And I think we're already into their bullpen.
He has contact skills.
Who assumed a 3-0 take?
How is this team consistently bad at situational hitting, year after year after year?
Of course, it doesn’t help that only Severino and Tanaka seem capable of going more than five innings, which has negatively affected the bullpen. They should consider calling up another long man.
You know what they say about you are never as good as you look when you’re winning or as bad as you look when you’re losing...

Second guessing by some about Cole:
1. It’s early
2. I didn’t want hum at the price
3. Part of the reason I didn’t want him is because the Yankees don’t have a great pitching coach, as we are seeing again, while Houston does
NYDN: Anonymous scout on Stanton: He’s a mess
All hitters going through a major slump are a "mess," so that doesn't really tell us much. He's probably just letting the pressure get to him.
Exactly
One of my pet peeve’s has been writers getting anon scouts to say almost anything and treating it like it’s gold.
.@Yankees acquire INF/OF L.J. Mazzilli from @Mets for OF Kendall Coleman.
Robinson in, Peterson out
Word from the @swbrailriders is that Aaron Hicks will play five innings today, nine innings tomorrow, then rejoin the #Yankees on Thursday. -- @BryanHoch

@eboland11
Boone said Drury "had a number of tests,” yesterday but had nothing specific in terms of results yet. “We’ve gotten some good news on some of the results but there’s a number of results that will probably take a couple days to trickle in.”
I'm guessing what this means is it's nothing that's life-threatening, which is very good to hear.
-Mike K. at work
Good thing I don't take April baseballl very seriiously.
Judge is good.
So's Stanton, so's Sanchez. Just not quite yet.
