Todd Frazier Next?
So now Jim Leyritz says the Yanks are moving towoard a new deal with Todd Frazier. This is interesting because it would mean they're not making the Corbin/Drury deal. And since Todd is really only a 3b or maybe a 1B or DH, it probably would mean that the Yanks are content with their in-house options for 2B, which is good because they have a bunch of them. Of course, things could change, but if the Yanks are going forward with Frazier it is a step in a definite direction. Leyritz was the first to have Stanton, and his timeline actually was accurate and not premature as we found out later. So we should probably give this one a lot of credence.

I don’t see the advantage of giving him more than one year after dumping Headley, unless it’s purely a team option with no buyout. I know his stats are better than Headley’s, maybe he’s better defensively, but I don’t particularly like very low AVG hitters.
One year, training wheels on Andujar, period.
He could backup Bird as well if he gets hurt or needs a day off.
Austin can do that too for much cheaper
Austin can't stay healthy.
I would be willing to take the chance that he can. Again, if they can sign Frazier for one year, OK, but beyond that, no way.
Either you get Cole ata huge discount, since it’s undeniable that he’s been in decline for a couple of seasons, or you say to the Pirates, see ya. I prefer Cashman in sell mode rather than buy mode. Unless it’s a salary dump.
Austin can't handle third. Things are quieter than expected, and I wonder if they are waiting on the Manny market.

Sherman on next years free agency.
My personal preference is to not go after any more expensive players. I want to stay home grown. Stanton was an exception
Rosenthal says Yanks in on Darvish.
It’s behind a paywall. Do you have any details?
I think they'd have to move money for Darvish.
Longoria to SFG.
Yanks have to sell SFG on Ellsbury, with a massive subsidy.
I wish. Supposedly, he wants to stay in NY.
My guess is they money will talk; it almost always does.
Only if Jeff Samardzija is a Yankee.
Noooooooo
I just checked it. His contract is almost as bad as Ellsbury and he has been below league average for two out of the last three years. The reason I wouldn’t want him is because he would be given much more of a chance to do damage. Ellsbury is contained.
Heyman follows us

I actually think that makes sense. Isn’t he an Arizona resident? If so, West Coast teams in general might appeal.
I agree. But I suspect the salary relief after the subsidy will be pretty small.
Heyman: yankees have always loved gerrit cole, and maybe they work a deal eventually. but still hearing of one big holdup: pirates want gleyber to headline package, yanks want frazier to headline it.
Both offers are ridiculous. The Yankees’ track record acquiring starting pitchers isn’t great. Cole has been in decline and I can see no evidence that they can fix broken young starting pitchers. I am also skeptical about Gray’s future, and he hasn’t declined like Cole.
I’ll withhold judgement until something is done. I’m very optimistic on Gray’s future, he’s got great stuff and will develop a better rapport with Sanchez and our backup once he has a ST with them.
Shit. Call me on it if I’m wrong in 3-5 years. I’m fine with it. Cole is a huge risk.

My main issue with a hypothetical Cole trade is it would bump Montgomery down to the minors, which would be a mistake IMO. I don’t think they’d give up the top of the top prospects for him, and with the acquisition of Stanton, some guys are redundant.
The Montgomery issue would likely be mitigated somewhat by the fact that guys are always getting hurt, so he’d get some major league innings regardless.
I get the redundancy issue, but not for him. As Axisa said, his issue is that his spin rate is average. Obviously, a breaking ball is most effective when it is at the high or low end.
With Cole on board, Yanks will go with a 6 man rotation.
Heynan dissents
hear there has been no positive movement in recent days on gerrit cole talks with the yankees. they are still apart on the package going back. could be something for later, but no evidence anything's happening now.
I don't think Cole's on board yet.
Only a matter of time until he is.
