This Week on the Blog
Sorry this is a little late, google decided to keep logging me out for the past few days. Anyway this could be an interesting week, so let's dive right in.
Knicks: The deadline is Thursday, and there's still buzz around Rose to Memphis and maybe Melo to Boston or elsewhere. People think Melo wants to stay, but I've never seen him make any such decision while leaving money on the table, and his trade kicker is money I do not see him passing up. So we'll see. I could also see O'Quinn heading off, and he'd better bring back a good price, that player at that money is value.
Yanks: The Yanks signed Jon Niese to a minor league deal, with a full value of 2M if he makes the team before the deadline. And one of the reporters tweeted that Gleyber Torres is turning heads. And that's how it always starts. And of course, Levine opened his big trap again, so we might have to trade Dellin at the deadline, wish we could just waive Levine.
Rangers: They did a no show against the Islanders which ended their 6 game win streak, then beat Washington in a tight one yesterday. They still might go for defense at the deadline, but I think it will be difficult to pull off without giving up Buch or a 1 or some other odious price.
Giants: The Giants are getting ready for the combine, and probably tring to lock up Hankins and JPP. They can always make more cap room with some other moves.
So there it is, big week for the Knicks, and maybe the Rangers, and health luck and intetelligence neeeded for the Yanks and Giants. Have a great week everyone.

For the Knicks, it would be a dream to get one's on the Nets picks the next two years from Boston, preferably this years. We need to go for the full Rebuild, KP and Hernongomez as the keepers going forward.
Looking forward to seeing all the Young Yanks in action. Besides Torres, I know Frazier has been busting it all off season.
Rangers might want to trade potential players they will not be able to protect in the expansion draft for an upgrade, pending free agent that wants to stay(Shattenkirk (sp.)) This way they will not have to protect him and you know he wants to stay.
I cannot believe the steal of Cousins. Until proven otherwise, I have no confidence in anything the Knicks may do.
As far as Levine, Mike is correct; it is reasonable to impute anything he says to Hal. He was hired because of his political connections when they wanted to shake the city down for a new stadium. The rest of his tenure has been as ugly as his personality.
LINJ -- Talent wise it looks like a steal, but I suspect the price got discounted based on the odds of getting him under control. We'll see of course, but I wouldn't put my shirt on Cousins's turning into the next Earl the Pearl.
True, but he is one of the few players for whom I would trade this year's first round draft choice.
Rumors of Griffin to Celts, wish the Knicks would get involved and possibly send Anthony to the Clips for Celts youth/picks/salary relief.

I'll just say this, I don't want Rubio.
Knicks could have traded up for Rubio at the draft years ago... Tealeaves pointing to JPP resigning shortly? Jenkins seems to be hinting at it as is JPP himself.... Whitworth is testing the market, Reese better be all over that...
Randy Levine is such a disgrace to this franchise. I've been saying it for years, specifically when trying to defend Cashman & the baseball ops guys.
Giants need to resign Hankins/JPP and hopefully get a tackle.
Knicks, lol. As a season ticket holder, I'm ashamed and really hope they unload Rose/Melo this deadline.
Unfortunately, Levine has literally put millions into the Steinbrenners' coffers, so it's unlikely Hal could ever be brought to a point where he would let Levine go, especially since Hal has balked at firing people in general.
Knicks looking for a No. 1 for O'Quinn!

Listening to this interview clip of A-Rod on TMKS makes me almost think -he- should be the one managing this youth influx.

A-Rod is great. For him to evolve from entitled, out-of-touch diva, to a smart, self-effacing leader, is truly admirable.
It's hard to believe that there aren't better baseball business CEOs available to Hal and family, and there are probably quite a few.
Hal doesn't like to make changes. It's pretty obvious.
“When you have a young player, we have a great young shortstop in Jorge Mateo who has tremendous upside,” A-Rod told Kay. “And what we have to do is we have to build a curriculum for him. And then judge him on that curriculum and stick with it. So my focus with him would be I’m going to judge him on being on time, on your meticulous work ethic and your great defense. If you do those things, you’re going to hit second for the entire year and get 600 at-bats. But we’re going to do a paradigm shift on how we judge you. And a lot of these kids, all they want to talk about is offense. So you have to shift it and create a system where they can be win-win and the organization can be win-win.”
Please believe me when I say that this is a non-political comment. Mitt Romney is supposedly interested in buying a couple of points of the Yankees. He was a very successful private equity guy, and he would be a perfect replacement for Levine.
I agree, but he's also a lifelong Sox fan and apparently has no interest. (It's the Romney family that's interested in buying those points.)
Levine is where he is as much because of his NYC and NYS political connections as anything. Romney doesn't have that.
Levine and Bill DeBlasio likely hate each other. And as much as I am underwhelmed by the latter, how can anyone like Levine?
I would agree about DiBlasio, but there are plenty of other games in town. Levine is a Republican and was a top deputy to Giuliano and had close ties to Bloomberg. He had a lot to do with getting the new stadium built. I have no doubt he also has ties to some very influential Democrats as well.
I agree about the stadium, but that's in the rear view mirror. He is way past his sell-by date, and is easily replaceable. If Hal wasn't so passive and out of touch, the inexcusable Betances smear would have been enough to tip the balance. And yes, Rudy is to blame.
I love Bloomberg, btw. He may be the best executive, in the public or private sphere, this country has.
To pile on Levine, this was a question directed at Yankee Source about the Yankees' chances of signing Cuban teenage phenom Luis Robert:
@YankeeSource
Randy Levine's still not over the Jose Contreras signing so good luck with that.
Hal must live in a hermetically sealed cave.
