This Week on the Blog

It was a pretty mediocre week for our teams, with only the Knicks and Rangers playing and to mixed results. This week could be more of the same, but baseball's on the way, and the Giants could make a move or two on the staff or roster.

Rangers: The Rangers ended last week looking bad against the Leafs, and ended this one looking good against the Leafs.  Of course they have the Red Wings later today, so that will really end their week, but they did get Mika Z back and he or Buch would appear to be the tipping point for the roster.  By re-adding those two, plus Nash since the bye, the Rangers have taken huge strides to back where they were before the injuries piled up.  That is to say: overwhelming.  The D and goaltending still need to improve, but they should once again be murder on O.   The Red Wings should have their hands full.

Knicks: Melo is now intimating that he might accept a trade if the Knicks came to him.  Coincidentally, I believe his trade kicker kicks in this trade season.  Funny how that works. Of course the Knicks should trade since, as composed they are not going anywhere this year, and it is clearly time to build around KP, Billy and whoever they can get in this year's draft.  KP's been in and out of the lineup and they need to keep being careful with him.  So, it's time for a selloff and a shot at the lottery.

Yanks: The Yanks had some of the kids running around doing publicity for them this past week.  This coming week most of them should head to Tampa for Captain's Camp and whatever. So we need to just wish them the best of health and development,

Giants: The Giants have added some more street free agents, and haven't made any noise about dumping Sullivan or Cignetti, so we'll see.

Alright, that's about it.  The Rangers are about to start.

Have a great week and thanks for posting.

I wouldn't trade Melo just ti trade them. Virtually every player on the team sucks the defense. Unless it's a killer trade, it's only gonna get worse.

Every time I'm stupid enough to watch this team play, it seems as if they have a grand plan to find a way to lose. And they are very good at executing the plan. But it's getting to the point where I don't give a shit what they do.

The D is worse with Melo on the floor. We need to make a GOOD deal, but a deal must be made.

My skepticism is because there were reports that they wanted to trade the pick that was used to draft Porzingis to get a veteran. They couldn't get what they wanted so they kept the pick. The next year they gave long-term contracts to Noah and Lee. So my concern would be that they would just continue to leverage the future to boost the present even if they trade Melo.

They wanted KP. Phil Jackson said they might trade the pick but that was just to say he was willing to talk, as he should be. They ended up getting both KP and Hernangomez that night, so there was a plan in play.

I'm certainly not vouching for his credibility, but for example, Steven A. says the Knicks would take back, in his words, "a broken down Kevin Love" in exchange for Melo. If that's the kind a move they really would make, that's exactly what I fear.

Don't know much about this player, but interesting nonetheless: http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/mlb-allows-hector-mendoza-unrestricted-free-agency-unusual-case/#wBbc6ilRW0CBIGrM.97

Raanan thinks Jerry is a more impossible FA than Hankins. The media in sports as well as non-sports are beyond awful.

The Knicks have been unsuccessful in their attempts to engage the Cavaliers in Carmelo Anthony-for-Kevin Love trade talks in advance of the league's Feb. 23 trade deadline, ESPN.com has learned.

I have no idea what is true, but if Jackson is desperate to move Melo, as some have speculated, I would be afraid that he would add draft picks to get this done. Dolan should kick him out the door before he has a chance, if that is even remotely true

He's far from the majors to be sure, but I hope they don't trade Rutherford.

Right now the outfield stinks. So I wouldn't trade anyone on that list, plus a few others, until the players self sort.

Serious 40 man roster crunch next offseason. I expect many trades of these prospectsites by the end of the year.

How much more broken down is Love than Melo?

The 40 man crunch can be resolved by trading marginal prospects or at least those without immense upside. I'm fine with that.

Adams for Melo would be a great move for the knicks!!

I’ve been seeing a lot of mock drafts with Clemson QB Deshaun Watson going to Houston at 25. I’ve seen one with the Giants taking Watson at 23. If Watson is available at 23, do you think the Giants should take him? --Mack

Raanan: Plain and simple, yes. Watson might take a few years to develop, but that is fine. He can sit behind Eli Manning for two years or so. He has all the skills and his intangibles (huge for a quarterback) are off the charts.

There’s little doubt in my mind that if there were a quarterback the Giants really liked (such as Watson) they wouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger. They’re admittedly looking for Manning’s successor and I heard as far back as November they were looking closely at quarterbacks. Coach Ben McAdoo also was in Green Bay when they drafted someone at No. 24 named Aaron Rodgers with Brett Favre on the roster. Favre was 35 at the time; Manning is currently 36. That seemed to work out OK for the Packers.

Saw that as well and thought that was very interesting. I personally want O.J. Howard -- having an elite blocking TE that can also be an major passing threat creates such more versatile and unpredictable offense. I don't see any OL in this draft that deserve 1st round consideration unless Cam Robinson magically drops.

The White Sox were hot for Rutherford, in the Quintana rumor. They better not6 trade hit, I believe he's the one prospect that could be elite, top 5 hitter in baseball.

Knicks perfect trade would be with Boston, getting either this years or next years Nets pick....and whatever salaries back to make it work. They need a real rebuild, their own pick should be a lottery pick next year too.

I guess the issue is will Howard be there. Reports have him moving up.

But, I readily admit that I don't know a ton about college football.

The Yankees haven't had a Rutherford-level-drafted-prospect since Jeter. No way he should be traded.
