This Week on the Blog

Have had my beloved family in town over the holidays, so sorry the posts have been non-existent for a little over a week. This is is big week starting today with the Giants.  And it's a big week for the Rangers, although they're not playing again till Friday(!), and less so for the Knicks, who might want to start thinking about a selloff and some tanking, since they own their pick. The Yanks "Captain's Camp" might be starting this week, I'll have to check. Let's take a look.

Giants:  The Giants are in Green Bay today for the Wild Card game. Obviously, everyone is picking the Pack and the Frozen Tundra, but, those that don't learn from history are often doomed to repeat it.  The SB 42 and 46 titles ran right through the Frozen Tundra. The Giants can do it again today, if the D can play like it has lately, while cleaning up the long passses, and the Giants O can play like it did in the first two years of McAdoo. A big part of that will be giving the majority of carries to Paul Perkins, I'd also like to see them line up at a WR spot out of the huddle, if only to be a decoy. The Pack will try to take away OBJ, but I don't think they have the players to do it.  Let's Go, Giants!

Rangers: Rangers had another spirited comeback last night.  And AV finally let Clendening play and he scored 2 goals to spur the comeback.  The Rangers have been looking for that all year, and it's been on the roster.   That said they still need to find another defensive defenseman because Girardi is a pylon, and they keep giving up early goals.  They have the week off till Friday, and we could see some movement.

Knicks: The Knicks are now 3 games under .500 because they don't play D. Also, KP has been nursing a sore achilles. Korver just got traded, so the market is now open.  Time to see what we can sell (not KP, Billy, etc.) and start planning for the draft. Having multiple ones would make a rebuild go faster.

Yanks:  January is the time of year when a lot of prospects start floating back to Tampa to continue their offseason workouts. Not sure when Captain's Camp is, but they're still holding onto prospects and picks and that can only auger future success.  What's more the Phillies are now looking for a left handed bat: Brett Gardner? The Phillies started their sell-off and rebuild a year or so before the Yanks did, so they might have some desirable assets to give in trade. We'll see.

So that's about it.  Go Giants!!!!!!!!!   Go Rangers!  Sell Knicks!  Stay the course, Yanks!   And have a great week!

I can't understand why a trip to Miami should matter (I was there too, by the way, although merely in South Beach chilling with the rif raf), but when you live on the edge, you invite whatever comes your way. It's ridiculous, but so is so much of life.

Remind me of the last time a quick fix worked for the Knicks.

Just trade Melo and rebuild about Zinger already...

With his NTC and shoulder issues, it will be very hard not to have to take back a player no one wants with a similar bad contract.

This sums up Reese's ongoing incompetence in building an OL. Eli was continually (and understandably) in self-preservation mode. And it killed their deep passing game.

Maybe the only savior for Flowers was that Manning got rid of the ball so quickly (2.39 seconds, tied for third-fastest in the NFL) that his sack number was respectable. Other than that, most of the signs were troubling.

I'd even move Rose also, it's clear he's not staying long term. I like Hornacek, it it seems he has to serve two masters. I agree lawyer easier said than done moving him. Its clearly obvious though it's the right move to make. As for the OL the free agent list is t that exciting, u less I'm missing something.

I agree quick fixes never worked for the Knicks (or any team). Have they ever even tried a natural rebuild thru the draft? No! Makes it hard to be a Knicks fan but it's hard to change the heart! at least for me it is ...

I'm not sure the Yanks would trade Gardner at this point(Cashman said he's done with moves, that can change), they still need to maintain a MLB competitive team "on paper" for the paying customers(potential season ticket holders). I could see him going at the Trade deadline when he'd likely be more valuable and after a half season of the Yanks seeing there is a viable replacement for him from within. I believe we already do but seeing it happen as opposed to believing it can happen are two different things.

If the Yankees are truly unwilling to discuss an extension for Tanaka, then they should just let him go in the offseason.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems* like they're asking for too much for Gardner and Headley, although that may be a function of the dual mandate.

* obviously, I don't really know.

Hopefully they can unload Gardner and Headley at the trade deadline for a better return.

Yankees need Tanaka and I see him having a very good season.

NBA Trade Rumors: Blake Griffin To Celtics, Knicks' Carmelo Anthony To Clippers Highlight Blockbuster Seven-Player ...

The Inquisitr - 13h ago

NBA trade rumors are nothing new to New York Knicks small forward Carmelo Anthony and Los Angeles Clippers power forward Blake Griffin.

The latest NBA trade rumors are promoting the possibility of a blockbuster swap between the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Clippers. The parameters of this rumored proposal are as follows: the Celtics would receive Blake Griffin, small forward Wes Johnson, and combo guard Sasha Vujacic. The Knicks would come away with a haul that includes Jae Crowder, Amir Johnson, Marcus Smart, and the Nets’ first-round draft pick in 2018. The Clippers would round out the festivities by acquiring Carmelo Anthony.
