Yanks Name Hit-Deki Matsui Special Advisor to Cash
The Yanks have given Hideki Matsui a Special Adviser post and expect him to work in player development. They say he'll mostly travel througn the minors, in uniform, working with all the hitters. That sort of replaces what Gary Denbo was doing before he became head of player development. Obviously, Hit-deki was a great hitter and also fundamentally sound, so this should be a good match.

Is this a different role than what was announced in March?

Maybe that was a one year deal, becuase they re-announced it today.
They should hire DePodesta to fill Eppler's position. He is their primary pitching guy.
Sanchez is lighting up the AFL. They better not trade him.
Agree with Sanchez if he can stick at catcher.
Maybe deal Murphy in the right deal and let Sanchez split time with McCann.
If the trade Sanchez I will puke. Th new reality is they can't compete with the Mets by playing old pieces of crap No one wants to watch that anymore.
And as we have said, they have a lot of young pieces for the first time in like seven years. They can make this transition fairly quickly, but they have to make it, and not let the bad decisions of the past on bad contracts cause more bad decisions in the future. This offseason will give us a lot of information on whether the era of stupid may finally be over.
Francesser showing the stupid:
1) He thinks the Mets can trade Harvey for Bogarts, Betts, plus. If Dombrowski does that, I would have severely overestimated him.
2) He talks about how wrong the Met fans were about Collins.
Does anything demonstrate how meaningless managers are than what has transpired with the Mets? They have talent, so Collins looks good.
3) Pitching Pitching Pitching. Murphy has been unconscious as well though. So how can you attribute it all to pitching?
It also shows what a waste it is to give Joey big bucks. He is ordinary at best, but because he thinks he is smarter than everyone, he is probably pretty dumb.
On trading Sanchez: It would depend on the return. If it's for pitching, even if the trade is good in and of itself, it would show the team still hasn't learned its lesson about its need to stockpile hitting in a time where offense is trending downward league-wide. If it's for a young hitter in their prime who doesn't have an albatross contract, that's different.
What would that be though, Mike?
A young 3B? He would be blocked.
A young 2B? Is that really worth ending Refs' upside, who I would wager will be much better than, for example, Murphy (granted a low bar but he is the toast of the town now) with real plate discipline and a slightly above average glove.
A young OF? We got those.
So nothing would make sense, imo.
And if it is for an expensive veteran, with the constraints of this payroll, it would make less sense.
It would have to be a young third baseman or a superstar outfielder (I.E. better than what any of the Yankees' young guys are projected to become). Of course, a third baseman would require a subsequent move of Headley, but Headley doesn't have a NTC and isn't a 10-5 player, so that would at least be doable in theory.
BTW...

I'm not sure I buy that, but it would certainly clear up the problem of needing to get Bird big-league at-bats despite being blocked.
I will give Collins credit for getting rid of the lackadaisical attitude that characterized the Mets before he came on board. Willie Randolph tried to do it and got stabbed in the back by Minaya. Alderson probably has Collins's back on this, but lack of hustle and mental errors no longer are business as usual at Citi Field. I don't think this is a coincidence and I think it had alot to do with the Mets' recent run of success. Good for them, and as LINJ says maybe the Yankees can copy the model.
No one will take Headley unless they eat at least a year's worth of the contract.
Either way, I am not trading Sanchez because they made a mistake with McCann.
High-end cost controlled bats are too scarce.
Of course, no one will ask me.
Heyman reports the Yankees will not pursue Cespedess. No shit!
He has never been an impact player for very long.
Alderson has become the true ninja with some of his incredible trades, but often great trades have the most value as rentals, and I suspect Cespedes' market value may not be anything close to what he would hope.

Yanks better stay away from Murphy. He is a subpar fielder and is getting hot at the right time with the bat.

KANSAS CITY. Mo. — Tim Naehring is going to fill the vacancy created when Billy Eppler left, but won’t have the title of assistant general manager attached to his name.
The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed Naehring replacing Eppler, the former assistant GM who was hired by the Angels to be their GM.
It's pretty interesting the Cashman wanted to hire Cherrington.

Their only good free-agent signing in years
The Mets series is still early because the home team hasn't lost yet, but for all the idiots who think pitching is everything, they may want to think again. The Mets didn't get great until Cespedes became unconscious. That's not the hitter he has been in his career.
As for the Royals offense, their hitters make contact, they're not big hairy monsters. There's a lesson in that for a certain GM.
Indeed, they are exciting fun days, thank you for sharing it with us.
