This Week on the Blog

Alright, this past week was just okay.  It started with Giant and Ranger wins, then went downhill from there.  Let's see if we can't do better this week.

Giants:  Giants play the Eagles on Monday Night tomorrow, and for a change I think they are lucky that they got the extra day.  This is because both Beckham and Randle tweaked their hammies last Sunday night and the extra day gives them, and everyone else who's dinged, and extra day. As a result of those uncertainties, we could see an even heavier dose of Shane Vereen tomorrow.  Tiki used to give the Eagle fits, and maybe Shane can have the same effect.

Rangers:  The Rangers won their first three games, then a few minutes ago, lost their third straight.   They have scored a total of 2 goals in the three losses, and have played disgracefully.  Not really sure what the problem is with Kreider, Hayes and Miller, but if they're not chipping in goals, the Rangers will continue to struggle.   They're just not getting their stretch passes or playing good D.  And they're not playing fast at all, especially on the PP.   It's early though, and they should adjust.

Yankees:  The Yanks cut Rico Noel this past week, and will  have to continue pairing down the the 40 man roster over the coming weeks.  They've also got to find a new Assistant GM, as well as a new AAA manager.  So, lots of housekeeping.

Knicks:  The Knicks have looked good in the preseason.  Last night, they lost for the first time, but they also didn't dress Melo, Lopez, O'Quinn or Calderon, and they were in it the whole way.  Zinger, who's still finding his way played for only the third time last night.  Jerian Grant, who's still finding his shot, continues to impress on D, and at the point.  Galloway and Early both look much improved. This could be a really interesting, if not rewarding season for a change.

So that's about where we are.  Have a great one, everyone.

EAST RUTHERFORD — Faced with a dearth of depth at cornerback, the Giants have promoted Brandon McGee from the practice squad and waived tight end Jerome Cunningham, two individuals with knowledge of the move confirmed to NJ Advance Media.

#Yankees have fired hitting coach Jeff Pentland.

OK, look, if they didn't like his approach or something, that's fine. But at what point does the team examine the type of hitters it had acquired/chooses to play every day? Is Pentland supposed to turn Drew into a competent offensive player?

Everyone but Cashman and Girardi are held accountable. Rinse. Repeat.

I actually thought someone did a good job with Didi, and I assumed it was Pentland.

Just to provide specificity, Didi improved when he shortened his swing. When he goes into cold spells, his swing gets long.

Wow, the Yanks also fired Gary Tuck, who is considered by lots of folks to be the best catching coach in the business.

Yanks still have Alan Cockrell, and perhaps he is getting the credit for DiDi's improvement. There was some thought that Pentland would only be around till Cockrell was ready to go full time.

Willy Hernangomez: My career has just began and I’m now living the dream of playing for Real Madrid. I’m a very ambitious player and would like to play here many years before thinking about the NBA. 3 days ago – via ABC.es

I love the Flowers is a leader at such a young age but why does it fall to him?

A lot of people are killing Andre Williams, but I think he is a good back who is a poor fit for this OL. He needs the line to get a push so that he can start moving his legs and knock people over. This line gets no push.

The lack of talent on this team is an embarrassment, and although it has been apparent for years, the smug owner doesn't seem to care enough to make the kind of top-down changes that are necessary to be a really good team again. If/when he ever fires Reese, I'm not sure he has what it takes to find the best replacement available. He may want someone who will let him have personnel input.

I just heard Shaun O'Hara on the radio. He really likes Williams and thinks he needs 20+ carries. McAdoo is lost (that's my opinion).
