Yanks Win Again

Same pic as last night because. well, Dealing Dellin is totally back and he's awesome.  The pen has been incredible, though I still don't like the save rules or that Girardi seems to count innings by their number rather than their leveraged situations.   Also, let's hope the starters and O can start giving the BP some rest.   Warren pitched pretty well, and I guess Whitley will come up and pitch tomorrow, but that will probably be another long day for the BP.   Let's hope they can bash their way into an Esmil Rogers situation tomorrow.

Anytime you can get something from McCann and Beltran you have to win.

McCann is a fine catcher. He hits for power and handles the pitching staff pretty well.

Murphy is a fine backup and that's it.

That is the type of mindset that that has filled this team with too many old and/or declining players.

There isn't an another team in baseball with top catching prospects yet pisses away $80 million on a declining catcher.

Anon, McCann most certainly isn't "fine" hitting .250/.299/.417 with the kind of money he's making. He needs to start walking like Teixeira is to offset his low batting average.

Murphy may be little more than a backup catcher, but if you aren't going to get consistent offensive production at the position, I'd rather pay him and Romine the league minimum than McCann $17M annually.

On the positive side, Ellsbury and Gardner at the top of the lineup is setting the table quite well.

He is fine in regards to HR/RBI production and being a LH hitter it only helps him with the short porch.

Romine was DFA'd in ST and his stock has fallen off the cliff.

As far as the other Yankee "Prospects" guys like Sanchez stock has fallen in recent years and is hardly a catcher. He will likely be traded at the trade deadline for something.

Luis Torrens could turn out to be something and actually stick at catcher but he is years away after missing this year.

I'm surprised no one said anything about McCarthy going down with a torn UCL and needing TJ.

Also, Shane Greene reverted back to the mean and was dinged up. Impossible for him to sustain that BABIP but either way, DiDi needs to start playing better overall.

Billy Martin;

I just read that on Chad Jennings blog. This sure knocks out those posters here who were blasting Cashman and the FO for not re-signing him. 3 years was too risky for a guy with his injury background. 4 years was suicide. I expected the Dodgers to get more then this out of him. Now it looks like the rest of 2015 and most of 2016 will be money down the drain. almost half the contract will have been a waste. And who knows what the last 2 years will bring, as Brandon is not getting any younger.

Kudos to the Yankee organization for standing firm on th length of contract with McCarthy, even though they really needed him at the time.

I didn't want McCarthy either in a trade or re-signing him.

I "blast" Cashman for two things: 1) overpaying declining veterans; and 2) not being able to develop offensive talent, which is why they have so many declining veterans.

Oh and to the anon dude, assuming he is the same one, you keep dissing "prospects" as fungible yet keep defending Gregorius.

What do you think Gregorius is?

He hasn't stuck at the ML level and he is 25, so he's still really a prospect, and mostly a failed one to this point.

Murphy will be a very solid ML C and a starter for some team.

That $80m could have been used on Moncada and they'd have money to spare.

Anon,

HR/RBI totals are a poor way to judge offensive output. McCann is hitting for power but is doing little else. For $17M a year, that's not nearly enough, and you cannot reasonably argue otherwise.

Romine was included in my post because people say his defense is above average, so he would be the backup to Murphy under my plan. While neither would likely light the world on fire, Murphy at least has shown plate discipline, unlike McCann, and is only costing the league minimum.

If Torrens is the only success story out of all these top catching prospects in recent years, that doesn't reflect very well on player development.

A-Rod giving Didi advice about playing SS, at the behest of the coaching staff:

http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2015/04/28/pregame-notes-216/

I naively once believed (iirc, I think Phil did too; maybe I'm wrong) that after a year of A-Rod being here, Jeter would see that he was the better SS and offer to move to CF or 3B.

Ellsbury channeling Rickey.

SSS but kind of weird that McCann keeps hitting this guy

The bullpen and the top of the order are early season success stories.

Charleston now has Mateo, Avelino and Aguilar on the same team. Aguilar is paying 3rd tonight, Avelino SS and Mateo is the DH.

For Trenton Bird and Jagielo have both homered.

Yikes. Time to get on the Hamels sweepstakes!

Maybe expand the deal and get Utley.

Trying to stop the fucking shit

Long past time really

Not looking good for Tanaka.

I really hope this team stays away from Hamels.

Also, I'm beginning to wonder if Anon is a troll account.

Intentional or not he obviously is

Back to the important topic, everyone with the injury is getting the surgery but him. Yes, there is no guarantee that it will be successful but they have to resolve this ASAP so he has the best chance of losing only one season not two.

Though I defend the initial decision as it was backed by multiple doctors who know much better than us, at this point, I'm inclined to agree.

To try to be positive, if they really think it's a month, let Mitchell pitch in NY at least until then.

At 7:20 AM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Petit recalled. And I doubt Pirela gets a shot because of that.

Once again, a Yankee farmhand is rejected in favor of a journeyman from another team.

At 10:40 AM, Anonymous MBN said...

Mike K.;

Pirela is not yet ready. He has looked real bad so far in his return. Does he even have a hit yet. He is really making weak contact, when he makes contact.

He needs more time. It comes down to Noonan or Petit for the utility infielder job.

At 10:41 AM, Anonymous MBN said...

Phil;

Think the Yankees will move one of those guys out of Charleston and into Pulaski in June? You can't have 3 of your best SS prospects (not including Wade here) on 1 team.

At 7:02 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I think it might work in the other direction: Wade goes to Trenton, possibly, and one of the SS's goes to Tampa.
