Moncada Worked Out for the Yanks
According to Ben Badler of Baseball America, Yoan Moncada has already worked out for the Yankees, who, according to Badler are one of the favorites to sign him. This is good news, and let's hope that OFAC clears him soon, so it doesn't get anywhere near the June 15 deadline for the Yanks.
It's important to get amateur signings in the system as soon as possible, and they will absolutely want him at Spring Training.
Get it done, Yanks!

So K9 whats the scoop ?
I think we're getting him, unless OFAC sanbags the process till we hit the penalty.
Since they haven't signed any Cubans, and have signed tons of aging/declining overpaid roster fodder, there are no excuses if they whiff.
Unless he prefers another team..
Just throwing this out there - anyone have any idea what the process is regarding the OFAC, as far as what procedures are required, and where they stand with completing these procedures?
Trying to get a realistic handle on what the remaining time constraints are.
yf
Have they sunk that far?
This is the NY Freakin' Yankees. They can give him the biggest stage, the most money, a huge Cuban population in the area, etc.
They only thing they can't promise is winning big really soon.
Yeah, I'm curious to know what the holdup is with OFAC.
I have no idea what the holdup is. Should be any day now.
If Moncada should sign for less then we offer I feel you can't blame Cash. It's not unheard of a player not wanting to play for us ie Felix Hernandez and David Price
Blame is immaterial on any particular issue. Moncada is only a complete necessity because they have been so poor at development.
That is on the GM.
LOL You really are a lawyer..
I thought I had heard the holdup was due to the conditions of his exit from Cuba. Essentially, that it was too easy. The Cuban government gave him a visa and a passport and allowed him to leave the island. Also, Moncada’s agent is just some random public accountant from Florida. There has been suspicion caused from that.
Thanks...I think...
If Moncada signs with the Yanks, where would he fit in on their prospect ladder. Given that his likely position is 3B, how would he rate compared to Jagielo, who is likely to start at Trenton, and Andujar, who would likely start at Tampa and whose stock seems to have gone up?
At a time when the US has finally decided that the power of the free market is the most potent tool available to change the behavior of other countries, I don't see how any reasonable entity can deny Moncada the right to use the market to earn a living, ASAP.
If they don't believe that his agent is competent, there are ways to create conditions so that he can avail himself of the best possible representation.
For example, they could stipulate that he needs an MLB experienced representative to be granted a license to sign.
Moncada would immediately be our #1 prospect.
Gotcha! Thanks.
