Yanks: Ian Kennedy Part 2?
The Yanks reportedly have a scout in Chicago tonight watching Ian Kennedy pitch for the Padres. Kennedy is a weird pitcher. First, he's got a strong K rate and lots of K's without too many walk or home runs, and a bit less than a hit an inning. But his ERA+ is a below average 95. Perhaps the mysterious Yankee Analytics department is recognizing something. Anyway, he's not someone who should cost us anything serious, and I was kind of thinking he and Headley would arrive in one trade. But they are looking at him tonight, and he'll probably be similar to the guys we've called up this year, but without as much uncertainty. We'll see what happens.
Btw, Soria just got traded for the Tigers #2 and #4 prospects... Imagine what Robertson could get us given what Soria and Street have brought in trade this week.

I've always been a big Kennedy fan. He's had a weird career. One really great MLB season, a couple of average one, one crappy one. Pitching slightly above average this year. Good K rates. Still 29. Came up a Yankee so I'm cooler with trading for him...
BUt man we really have missed an opportunity by not selling on Robertson. Robertson is a great player and there will always be a use for him, but are we really gonna pay him premium dollars when he becomes an FA? A multiprospect deal suits me better than a draft pick. Would've loved to get that Angels package for Street.
It's gotta be another dumpster dive. Though Dustin Fowler was pulled from his Low A game in the 4th inning today, and that could mean something. He's a good OF prospect with power and some speed.
Better Then Danks but as you say only on the cheap.
I've watched Kennedy pitch a lot this year. If the Yankees do trade for him I don't believe they will get away with trading scraps. Kennedy's biggest flaw is he throws too many pitches. Pitching in a gigantic ball park he tries to strike everyone out never pitching to try and get weak contact (reminiscent to his old teammate Hughes). Hes still on his rookie contract and he's got one more year of arbitration prior to free agency so he is under control. With length being his biggest concern and the Yankees biggest strength being their bullpen, it might be a good get (although I don't think he comes cheap).
I also wonder if Kennedy comes for a fringe prospect or 2. If we are talking Judge or Severino forget it. I would rather not even give up Bird or O'Brien for him, although I can see the Yankees doing it.
Give them Mason Williams. I am so frustrated with him. All the tools, but he just does not show them at all. And he seems to be somewhat of a head-case.
I think there's a pretty good chance that McCarthy and Greene out pitch down the stretch if IPK is reacquired. And I wouldn't give up more than a Mason Williams and crap for him.
