Yankee Draft: They're Starting to Sign

DeCarr's big number has leaked and it's double slot.  Hard for the Yanks to digest budgetarily, so we'll have to see what they can do for the round 11-40 picks with some leverage.   Jacob Lindgren is also on his way to Tampa to get signed.   A bunch of the college seniors have signed, except the ones who are going to play of the CWS, like Payton and Spencer.

The Short Season leagues will start in the next few days, and I'll try to preview both of them if I have time.   Is is July 2 yet?

I figured it would take more than slot to get their Round 3 guy to sign. Glad he's doing so.

Let's see what July 2 looks like.

Assuming he is what they think he is (I have no idea),then they are doing what I suggested: taking the BPA early, and being willing to pay for it.

Time will tell if they are right, including their ability to execute and finish a development plan.

Part of development means getting big-league at-bats/innings. Which is why Kyle Roller, Jose Pirela and Mark Montgomery all need to be on the major league roster. If Refsnyder keeps hitting, he needs to join them.

And frankly, if Jose Ramirez gets sent down instead of Matt Daley getting cut when Kelley comes back tomorrow, then the Yankees really are completely stupid.

They stall their own prospects and have for a generation. Sometimes, they even trade them for crap, like they did with Mike Lowell, and possibly with Jesus Montero.

It’s no small irony that one of the most important run producers is their youngest position-playing starter, who anyone would could have likely traded for last season for almost nothing.

Have they learned from that fortuity?

Or will they trade Refsnyder in a package for some old big name?

Jesus Montero's trade will rise and fall solely on whether or not Michael Pineda can stay healthy.

And if Montero ever gets over it.

I wonder what Seattle what want for Montero.

I dunno. They're weird.

Also, I don't think Girardi would go for whatever it is.

Just tell Girardi that he would never touch a catcher's mitt again. He has to hate this offense as it is.

Nuno must mean flirting with danger.

Betances didn't have his fine control tonight. And unbelievably we came through with a run after he allowed one.

Ellsbury is a pretty good player. If he can stay healthy and learn to hook a few to RF in YS...

Sweeny is hearing Ramiirez will go down for Kelley. That woukd not be good.

It would confirm what I said earlier — they're just plain stupid. Absolute waste of a roster spot going to Daley. Let one of the prospects get some time in the pen.

This post on NYYFans sums it up perfectly:

"One of the more frustrating aspects of this organization's approach to roster management is their propensity to let non prospects, journeymen, and aging veterans struggle at the MLB level rather than give legitimate or even fringe prospects a chance to do the job."

Mike

Remember when Cashman forced Cano on Torre?

I thought that was a sign of a new way of doing things, but not so much.

That's why Solarte's emergence should teach them a lesson, which was my point about irony above.
