Giants Draft: Day 2 Considerations

Well, the Giants went playmaker instead of OL building block in round 1, so guess what they have to start doing in round 2?   That's right.  They have to start rebuilding the OL, which they been putting off for years.  Yes, getting Pugh last year as a start, but that's all it was.   We need more, and round 2 is a great place to start shopping.  Joel Bitonio is still on the board, as is Cyrus Kouandjio, Trai Turner and few others.   The Giants need to grab one of them in the second and seriously consider taking another one in the third, or at least bookmark ND's Chris Watt in the 4th or 5th.   If they want their 3 tech they can take Stephon Tuitt.  But they really have to fix the line and Bitonio would be a great start.

In the meantime, there will be crazy WR value at 43 and if they really want to be BPA jerks, they could take another one.    Also, Troy Niklas could be there and they'd have to think about taking him. So even though they have to fix the OL, there will be other temptations.  But they CANNOT KEEP BLOWING OFF THE OL FIX.     And they can't take a couple of scrubs late like McCants and Mosley and think they've stemmed the wound.    Had they taken Zack Martin, they'd have a lot more freedom tomorrow.   But they got an explosive playmaker instead and still have to fix the line.  So let's fix it with one or both picks tomorrow.

Maybe this all looks a lot better by the end of the draft, but there appears to be a level of complacency about the OL and its impact on Eli's ability to remain upright, let alone avoid serious injury, that is making me ill.

Bugs the crap out of me, too. As you know from reading this blog. But it is a deep OL draft and if they can grab two of the guys I've mentioned or guys like Weston Richburg and some others, we could be in good shape.

There really could be insane WR value staring us in the face at 43, and we'd have to consider it if we had a good plan for the OL that could start in round 3.

It doesn't change my point of view, but some NFL Network guy made an interesting point. He said that Beckham (and Cruz) can get separation quickly, so you may see them use the shotgun a lot with quick strikes to those two, not that far from the line of scrimmage, which could compensate for OL issues.

(OL issues and the NYG should not be in the same sentence for more than a season; it has been several)

I agree that they can get quick separation, but still we have to fix the OL. Those quick routes would also help a young OL who might not be bad.
