Whither Brett Gardner?
Now the Yanks know they will not have to use Brett Gardner to get a pitcher. The rotation is full, and Brett is too much to give for a reliever. Thus, they are either keeping him for the year, or moving him soon or at the deadline for a need. The need they have now is at 3B so he'll probably either go for one now, or at the deadline. Because unless the Yanks solve that now, they will have to try to solve it at the deadline -- and at that point the farm should look better than the injuries and off years caused it to look last year.
I'll talk about this in the next few days, but the Yankees really need to do a better job of figuring out who's core and who's not, and not get into these situations where they have a good player like Brett Gardner who is just inconsistent enough at the plate to never be what they consider core. And they have to trade these guys who aren't core, sooner, rather when everyone knows they really should.
