Yanks Nab Tanaka!

The Yankees did what they had to do.   They landed 25 year old Masahiro Tanaka to help anchor their rotation for the next 7 years.  The deal is said to be 7/155, with an opt out after 4 years.   So, if he's as good as he looks on tape, they'll be re-signing him in 4 years.   Apparently, a lot of teams were interested, so it's not too hard to understand how the years went to 7 and the dollars to 155.

We'll start to see what we've landed when pitchers and catchers report in a few weeks.  On tape he shown some deception, some pitchability and one hell of a splitter.  He may not be a number 1, but he could be a top number 2, and may have to be a number 1 for the Yanks, depending on whether or not CC can come back.

He''ll probably start out as the #3 behind CC and Kuroda.   It's even possible that he'll start in the minors, as they did when the got Orlando Hernandez many years ago.   Let's hope he's that good.

Meanwhile, they still need a 3B.   Adios, 189!  Go Yanks!
