Super Nova

Ivan Nova threw a 3-hit complete game shutout against the Orioles today.  People rightfully raved about his curve, and this was a huge win for the Yanks.  But, why has Nova improved so much?  I think we have to credit Larry Rothschild, because Nova was taught no out pitch in the Yankee minors. It's ridiculous but true.  He could always throw three pitches for strikes.  But they were hittable strikes.   It seems that no extra work went into teaching him how to tilt the pitch or bounce one with two strikes. I hope we don't see any more of this under Gil Patterson.   It was as bad as Cano arriving in the majors without knowing the strike zone or how to take a walk or grind.    Ponderous.   Great day for the Yanks and Nova, though.
